18"optional LT tires?
When I orderd my FX4 (yet to arrive) I told the salesman I wanted the 18" LT tires. Went by the dealership a few days later to pick up my order conformation and saw it had the 18" P rated tires and I also had a VIN number. My salesman wasn't in that day, so I spoke with the inventory manager (the guy that orders all the trucks at my dealership) I asked why my truck was ordered with P rated tires instead of LT. He said if I wanted to delay my order by 3-4 weeks I could change the order back to LT, he said ford was having trouble getting those tires. I didn't change, but I plan on making them swap my tires for a set of LT's on another truck on the lot, or give me a really good deal on the 285 Nitto tires.
same rim (optional 18" machined aluminum FX4 wheel) just a different brand tire. The LT is a heavy duty tire (more ply) where as the P is just average ply and isn't designed to carry a heavy load. The P rated tire is standard when you choose the 18" optional wheels on FX4, you have to specify if you want LT and of course pay extra to get them.

What brand and size are the LT's? Apparently I have the P rated ones, BFG Trail.
Look at the sidewall of your tire, somewhere around the lettering you'll see the code for your particular tire. It will look something like this " LT275/65R18" obviously this would be a LT tire. If it were a P rated tire it would simply be "P275..." .
I think the only LT tire offered from the factory at this time is the Goodyear, but I'm not 100% sure of this.

Did you order your truck with the LT"s or not?
If you did did you have to wait longer?
I ordered the LT tire because I had them on my 99 scab
and realy liked them, I got over 60,000 miles on first set.

As I got my truck 09/06 I assume he orderd it early on before there was a problem.
Has anyone ordered a truck with these tires ?

What the heck are you talking about?
The whole purpose of the LT tire is that they have more strength to carry more load. LT has nothing to do with snow. Try driving with standard passanger rated tires on some oilfield access roads made with large sharp gravel and you'll find out why the LT's are neccassary.

My lariat has LT Goodyear tires which is the way I ordered it. It got here in just under 7 weeks. It was loaded with "all" options except DVD.
We now have "3" 2004 F150 Super Crews in the family "2" Lariat and "1" FX4. My Lariat is the only one with the LT on it. All 3 screws are 4x4's. All have 18" wheels
I got the LT because of the bite it has on slippery boat ramps. The tire might be slightly wider then the P tires, at least it looks that way. It does ride a little firmer. Ford recommends 40 lbs in the LT tires, which is what I carry, and 35 lbs in the P tires.
Also, with LT you do hear a little bit of tire noise at highway speed that you do not hear with P tires.
As strange as it may seem, I think the number of plys and the load capacity is about the same, very little different. It is my understanding that the Goodyear LT's have just a little stronger ply's maybe thicker. I do know that the full set of 5 tires adds 54 lbs weight to the truck. That is one of the zillion calculations used to determine real towing capacity. That means that each LT tire weighs about 10 lbs more then a P tire.
