My Weekend Project...

OK so I have seen some interest on the board on this, so I thought I would turn it into a weekend project. I am going to hardwire my iPod to the truck's power source and mount the dock somewhere on the dash. I just dont know where, yet. I will keep you all posted, but if anyone has suggestions on what is easily accessable, I am all ears

I think I'll keep the stock stereo as is for a couple years, and then splurge a little and have a nice system installed that plays MP3's right from the in-dash CD player. I wish the auto manufacturers would put MP3 compatible players in at the factory. I bet the music industry is pressing them NOT to. Grrrr!

Wolfman, do please keep us posted on this. I wasn't really worried about the power part of it though. I was more interested in how to input it to the stereo. Are you just going with RF modulation? Right now I'm just trying to hold out until someone figures out how to work the retarded AUX stereo button.

The problem with the mp3-compatible stereos is you can only listen to a CD worth of mp3's at a time as opposed to 40 gig with the iPod. Until they got stolen, I was rolling around with about 300 CD's and even if they were all converted to mp3 CD's, that still would have been more of a hassle than I'm interested in. iPod means I pick up my whole CD collection and put it in my pocket. I just wish they made them bigger than 40 gig.

Hey r6jojo,

Well, what should have been a weekend project turned into a mid-week project, with me taking Weds. off! I am using the iTunes FM Modulator for the iPod, it has no wires and plugs onto the top of the iPod. It is about 1/2 inch thick, and works really well for 30 bucks. It is meant only to be temporary until the AUX adapter comes out, which will certainly not be soon enough! See this thread for my installation:

The AUX wiring has been discussed her for months now. I'm starting to wonder if Ford is holding out on us so they can milk the next generation of rail accessories. That would be pretty lame in my opinion. There is no explanation for why it's taking this long.
