Did you go all the way through and get to the dealer inventory? That's how far you have to go in order to see the x plan price. While you're building the vehicle you should see on the left hand side Total MSRP, estimated invoice, and X Plan Price with details beside it. Click that and it will tell you how to see the X Plan prices. I selected the build your vehicle and went through all the steps and it came out with a significant difference in prices.

Thanks, I just did what you said and it worked.

The discount came out to be about 12%, which is pretty good considering there's no haggling involved.

But it also said the X-Plan is voluntary to the dealer, so I wonder how many dealers participate.

I will see if just buying a few shares of Ford F stock will make me eligible. I sent the Ford investor page that question.

If it is it's worth spending $100.00 on 10 shares to save $5000.00 in cost.

You know, even if a dealer doesn't participate in the X-Plan, you can always offer them the same price and just walk if they don't accept it.

The X-Plan already tells you they'll still make money on the deal, even with 12% off!

It's a good was to find out how much your first offer should be.

Or maybe offer them sticker minus 15-17% at first, then let them talk you up to 12-14% off.

Thanks for the help!

David T.

Just to clarify, F is the symbol for Ford stock. I bet 99% of all dealers will accept X plan on a '04 F-150. Good luck

I just called Ford and they said the X-Plan is not available to Ford Company shareholders.

They also said there's no discount plan X, Z, etc., available for shareholders.

You have to be a Ford employee, or your company (whom you work for) has to have some affiliation with Ford.

Am I missing something?

Did you say that all you need to be eligible for a PIN is own a few shares of F?

Thanks,

David T.

My Dealer told me that there is 4100 in profit on F-150's

Example:
MSRP 41960.00
Invoice 34665.00
Cost 29960.00

So even at X-plan they make a bundle, there is no reason a dealer would not take X-plan. But some dealers like extra profit. So to recap. The dealer does not pay invoice for your Truck, they paid a number much lower. Invoice price is now the new MSRP. The things like dealer holdback are just an extra profit maker, assuming they can unload the Truck in 90 days. Its nice if you can get a number slightly lower than X-plan, then add the 2000.00 Cash back bonus from Ford and you might get closer to true dealer cost. If you are a dealer reading this... Please let us know what the new 04 markup is. was told the 4100 in 2003 when I bought my truck..

My truck's MSRP was $37945, invoice was $33168. He sold me the truck for $100 over invoice. I told him I had the X plan and he said I was better off not even using it. $37945 minus 12% equals $33391. That was back in September when there were no rebates. Right now I think some of these guys are getting rebates on top of buying it at invoice.

x plan or AQHA

X plan is great if you can get it , but if you can get a dealer to sell you for about $500 over invoice ( and you can find them) and then hit them with the AQHA $500 rebate you should be looking good......You have to be a member for a month to get the rebate.

Hello everyone! Short time lurker, first time poster! This thread concerning costs of the new F150's has been interesting enough to compel me to tell my purchase story.

I bought my '04 FX4 SCrew last week after about a month of research. When I felt ready to make the plunge, I had the largest dealer in Iowa (who I would not want to buy from, but that's another story) quote a price, and then asked the dealer (who I felt comfortable dealing with) for a quote on a similar FX4. Long story short, the dealer I bought from (not the largest dealer in Iowa) shot me an offer I could not refuse. My FX4 (which looks really nice in my driveway and even better under my butt) had a total MSRP of $37150, an est. invoice of $32621 and, as I just looked up, an X-Plan price of $32775.84 - the dealer gave me a quote of $31839.60 without batting an eye! My research on the internet showed that Ford has a holdback equal to 3% of Total MSRP which, when subtracted from the Invoice should be dealer cost. Under this theory, cost on my FX4 is $31378.50 which means the dealer quoted me a price that would allow him about $460 profit. I do not have a problem with the dealer making that much on my deal and neither should anyone else - after all, they're not in business to lose money. Of course, he made up some because I had him install chrome tube boards and mud flaps and I bought a 7/48k ESP. I'll get a little of that back since Ford also threw in 2 years worth of maintenance.

I guess my point is that the more knowledge one has going into a deal, the better you should feel about it. Dealing on new vehicles is anything but an exact science especially when you consider how many factors are involved like how many vehicles the dealer has, how long he's had them, how many he's sold, how long he wants to stay in business, etc. Bottom line: do your homework ahead of time. Delaers know there is a good chance you know what their costs are and honest ones won't try to bend you over at the risk of making a buck! Anyway, I hope I haven't been too long-winded and that something I said here might be helpful to somebody somewhere.

BTW, I love my new truck - hopefully I can get some pictures posted up this weekend (in case anyone's interested). Oh, and this site is the best thing I've found online in a long time. Keep those cards and letters coming!

P.S. Last time I checked my dealer had 45 2004 F150's on his lot...

akaheisman,

Welcome to F150online.com! Thanks for the post, that's some good advice for truck shopping...the more you know about the process, the better off you are.
"45 2004 F150's on his lot" - that's a pretty good selection! I'm sure that helped your deal, too...the are ready and willing to move those trucks!

JohnAndDar,

I was told they had ordered 50 trucks knowing they would be a popular item - in fact they had gotten 25 in just that week. I felt fortunate to get the deal I did without the hassle of the haggle.

I was distracted momentarily by a black '04 Mach 1 that they had in the showroom. That's a nice piece, too - but I recovered and got my FX4...
