Daystar lift installed at Sears??
Daystar lift installed at Sears??
Hey guys, I am new to the site and the website. Great info. I am on the FTW GA chapter and a guy told me someone on this site mentioned getting a Daystar 2 1/2 inch lift from Sears installed for $70?? They charged for normal strut replacement. Anyone know anything about that? I am about to do it myself but for that price, that would be great! Can anyone confirm?
I can't hardly believe Sears would do it for $70, since it would take them probably 2 hours to do it. I installed just the top half of the kit yesterday. I removed the struts myself and took them to the Ford dealer where I bought the truck at. They did'nt even write a ticket on it. The service advisor just said it would be appropiate to give the mechanic who did it a little something. So I gave him $30 for about an hours work. I really thought it was great of them to it the way they did.
It might just be me but I wouldn't let Sears work on my vehicles unless I knew the mechanics and could verify their ability. If you want suspension work done then take it to a suspension expert.

I have heard of others doing this install themselves. What did you take to the Ford dealer, the struts? Are you getting them compressed to be put back in, and what keeps them in that state until you get 'em back in. Does the kit come with instructions? I am moderately inclined mechanically but have some friends I could get to help also with more experience.
one of the local tire and lift shops said they would put metal spaces in for 70 bucks installed.. <northern tire and wheel in modesto ca> the same shop that did the procomp lifts for the silver fx4 and white larrit you have seen on this forum.

Relatively speaking this is a very easy lift. Yes, even Sears could do it. I would however be surprised if they would. Their universal "satisfaction gauranteed or your money back warranty" usally prohibits them from doing something that isn't factory equivalent.
All, really appreciate all your help. As a first time postee, you guys posted a lot of good info and I appreciate it. Thanks to the fellow FTW member for pointing it out : ). I bought the part from 4Wheel drive parts and it was the cheapest around so I shall give them a shameless plug. http://www.4wheelparts.com/
I will check with Sears if I cannot get my boys to help. Thanks!

I just carried the strut assemblies to the Ford dealer and had them compress them. There is one nut on the top of the shock itself that holds the top plate on and keeps the spring compressed. Its the nut you can see when you look down on top of your strut tower from the engine compartment. Its very easy to take the struts off yourself, you won't even need any ball joint/tie rod seperators. The nuts are lipped so you can just use a deep well socket and hit it with a hammer with very little effort. A torque wrench is recommended when you put it back together. I got the torque settings from people on here.
