Do your brakes squeak/squeal?
Do your brakes squeak/squeal?
Just wondering if anyone's brakes have started to make a squeak or squeal at any time during stopping? Mine has started to when I stop at certain slower speeds. In the past, the dealer has always told me that it's normal due to the material the brake pads are made of. I have no other choice to believe them, because I know they're not worn down. I just wonder why brakes would be made to make noise on a regular basis, when they put a squealer on there, that makes the same noise, to let you know when they're worn down.
I have over 4,000 miles on it, and it just started. So I don't think it's a breaking in problem.

At 3000 miles i have not had any noise from the brakes.I also don't have the dust problem anymore. One thing i did find after a car wash is that the truck would not stop at the first stop light.I thought i needed an anchor.

At least I'm not the only one! Now at 3500 miles, I have both the squeak/squeal and the dust. The dust is so bad I have to go to the spray wash every other day in between car washes to get it off. I am concerned about the Dealer turning the rotors and "shortening" their service life, so I will ask them to barely kiss them. I know from a friend that over-turning drums and rotors is a favorite way to insure repeat business.
That's where mine appears to be coming from too. And it's no normal little squeal. It's a loud obnoxious one.
I talked to the shop foreman at my dealer yesterday and he said that unfortunately with the metallic brake pads it's going to happen. He said sometimes a film builds up on them and can cause it. If I want him to take a look at them next time I go in he can and maybe he can do something. Or I can get them replaced, but he said that the factory pads last considerably longer than anything put on after the first set.

Guig, please keep us updated! If it was a simple problem I will see if I can resolve it myself. If not, I am going into the dealer sometime this week to get my seat fixed since it was faulty.
Squeak at 5000 and not fixed
My brakes have squeaked since 4000 miles, I now have 6000. At 5000 I took it in and the dealer said he could not do anything. It was normal he said.
I took it to another dealer, he was nice enough and said he could replace all the pads under warranty. He did, it went away for about 500 or 1000 miles and now it is back again. I did not have the rotors turned.
I have had many new cars in the past ten years and they all had metallic pads - but they NEVER squeaked when new. Sometimes after a brake job - 30,000 plus miles, but at 5000 miles on a new truck this is silly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost all new pads seem to squeek anymore!
My original pads squeeked when new. At 3000 miles (I think), I switched over to the Porterfield kevlar brake pads in the front. Got rid of the brake dust and squeeking, however after 1000 miles or so, they started squeeking.
I put brand new rotors and front brake pads on my girlfriend's Accord, and they occasionally squeek too. My 2002 Sport Trac I had prior to the Screw squeeked as well during the 22k miles I owned it, even after a front brake pad change at 16k miles.
They only thing I might try is some anti-squeal grease. You apply it to the outside of the brake pad, because the squeeling is usually from metal to metal contact between the pad and the brake caliper.

My brakes have squeeled on and off for the last 5000km. I took it in for its 10000km service the other day and told them about my brakes squeeling and to check them out (since they were doing a tire rotation anyways) When I got my truck back they told me they cleaned them and put some anti-squeel on them. That lasted all of 3 days before it started squeeling again. Im at a loss with what to do with this thing, nothing is more irratating to me that the noise that my brakes make when pulling up to a red light and have the guy in a 1980 chev truck smirk at me.
mine sing to me now and again. very intermitten though. i turn the music up a little. i won't worry about it unless the rotors
start to score on me. used to work for a brake shop and learned
that in a lot of cases it's normal especially with semi metallic pads
( i'm not sure if Ford uses them at build or not ) after all it is metal on metal or whatever substance your particular pads are made of
coming in contact with spinning metal ..... ?????????

My squeal started around 2000 miles, lots of dust, i know have 7400 miles, it still sings to me anytime i apply brake pressure.
I had the dealer look at them during an oil change, and of course, they don't do it for him. I took it for a drive, and it stopped...for about 40 miles, then has been doing it ever since.
It gets real annoying, and like everyone else, only seems to be coming from the front end.
What gives!

Mine are squealing at every stop. I am easy on my brakes and only apply light pressure so I do not have grooves but the squeak has got to go. I rotated the tires last weekend and spayed som brake cleaner around the calipers and it was a little better but not much. I am going to take it into the dealer next week and see what they will do about it. If nothing, I might change out the pads to the new ceramic type.
