Thumbs down Blower motor making noise

Sorry but I need some advice. And before anybody starts complaining that this is trival if you think it is move on and dont read. There now that, that is out I have had my truck in for total of six days now over the course of a couple of months to get the blower motor fixed. This thing squeeks louder than a stuck pig! The first time they told me that they sprayed the motor with some lubricant and that took them three days to come up with. The second time they took the truck for two days after they already ordered the new fan for it. I took it in today and they state that there is nothing they can do to fix it. That Ford is aware of the problem and that they put in a claim to Ford for me and expect that they will come out with a fix in a few months. I guess they think that maybe I will go away now. This is the third time and still no fix so, my option is to drive around in a truck that has a loud squeak if I keep the heat on -4 today or freeze.

Any suggestions that are useful are welcomed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

try a different dealer if you can.

why didn't they put in a new fan assembly if they ordered it for you?

I am sorry if that was not real clear they put the new fan in and it sqeaks just like the orginal one did. This is not a little sqeak but loud enough to hear over the radio at half volume.

JDaddy,

No, your issue is not trivial. Noise and crap like that bug the **** out of me as well. I'm dealing with a creak/squeak from the cowling area along the windshield that's gonna put me in the nuthouse soon.

Anyway, as for the blower motor noise, you can't imagine my surprise when I discovered this problem on my '04 Screw. Why was I so shocked??? Well because I had the SAME problem on my 1994 SHO. Uhm let's see, it's been 10 years and Ford still has issues. Time for a redesign maybe???

While my sqeak was only prevalent when the fan was running at low speeds, I made them replace the blower motor. It's still not 100% perfect but it's much better.

Good luck!!!

Mine is making noises at low speeds too. Even at high, I still get a noise.

Anyone else with this and who got a permanent fix?

I also have crickets in my fan. It's most obvious on the lowest setting and becomes less noticable as I increase the fan speed. Some days I don't hear it at all, other days it drives me nuts.

The first time I noticed it, I couldn't pinpoint the source. The chirping was kinda coming from everywhere. I climbed all over the truck like a freak before finally zeroing in on it. At first I thought it was the tranny.

Unless it gets louder, I may just live with it.

Clem and Zacky,

Again, I'd make them replace the blower motor. As you know, this is the source of your problem. I'm simply amazed that Ford still has this issue after all these years. Why, why, why??? It's no wonder the price of our trucks keeps going up year after year. They continue to have to replace defective parts when they should be redesigned. It's got to add up.

Here's the TSB info from my 1994 Taurus SHO:

97-25-05
Blower Motor - "Chirping" Or "Squeaking" From Blower Motor At Low Speeds
Noise - "Chirping" Or "Squeaking" From Blower Motor At Low Speeds

Seriously, this is ridiculous

I have 6500 miles on my FX4 and not one peep from the blower motor. Yank that sucker out, place it on a bench, and turn it on. Does it still squeak?
Possibilities:
bad bearing
motor not centered in housing
fans hitting housing when installed
Some piece of junk fell into the case and is hitting the fan.(tree leaves)

Mine makes a little noise, too, but I wouldn't call it a squeak. More like a "chuff" and it really isn't annoying to me, yet.

As for why Ford doesn't fix something like this that has been an issue for years...good question. But it isn't just Ford. In 83 I bought a Volvo GL sedan. During its first summer I discovered one day my entire front carpet soaked with water. Investigation revealed this water to be coming from the shroud around the AC coil in the dash, water which should have just run out the tube to under the car. When they pulled the unit out, they saw that at the factory, the shroud, which is in two pieces fastened together with a gasket material, was not properly sealed. This really irritated me, because of the soaking of the carpet, which the dealer didn't really care about, and for the general low build quality of this car which was claimed by Volvo to be high quality.

But here's the kicker: Over the 9 years I owned that car, I met at least a dozen other Volvo owners who'd had exactly the same problem, and this was over a span of several model years. So whoever was screwing up at the factory was consitently screwing up over a period of years, and yet this feedback never made it to ears that would hear.

TruBlu,

I have 5200 miles on mine and the blower has made noise since early on and really hasn't gotten any louder - yet. I think I noticed it before I got to 1K miles.

The noise is more of a soft, rythmic scraping sound. Muffled and somewhat non-directional. Like I said, it sounded like it could be coming from anywhere.

bikelover, "chuff" is a good word for it.

When bump the fan to the second setting it gets fainter and I can't hear it at all from three on up.

Well not to beat a issue to death, but my truck goes in again for the same reason. The fan is at the point that I either keep it off so I dont have to listen to the noise (which sucks when it is still below freezing in Wis) or I have it on full blast and regulate the temp by keeping the windows cracked. I drive a hour each way to work and this is just unaccetable to pay this much for a truck and have to listen to this fan squeak all the time. I now the owner of the dealership agreed to take a ride with me and listen to this
thing squeak. Maybe I should take him to a bar and get him drunk and get a new truck out of it . Anyway for those that have the same problem I will keep you updated but as of this morning Ford does not claim to have a fix for this fan yet.

Thanks for letting vent.

small whine

I had a whine while running my fan on automatic (low speed) 02 f150,

took it to the dealer,, replaced the motor, cause they said a bearing was bad..

cool I thought they fixed it..

my wife drives it home and tells me something is wrong with the fan..I check it out,,.. the fan seems to be hitting something..

it went from a whine to a freaking chainsaw...

back to the dealer..

they tested it and broke something in the dash..

replaced something.. and now the fan sounds like its missing a piece of the blade..

normally when a fan runs there is a consistent fan noise.. it seems inconsistent now...

they said its sounds like it supposed too..

any body know how to get to my fan + motor ..so I can check it out myself..take pictures and bitch to the dealer..
