Any advice??

I'm new to this forum and have been checking it out for awhile with some interest. I ordered my truck Dec 27th and was told that it should be in by mid- to late March. Here's what I got:
Aspen Green/Beige
Supercrew
4WD
5.4L V8
Leather Captain's chairs w/heated seats
18" wheels
3.73 LS
Audiophile
6-disc in-dash
black platform running boards
skid plates
power sliding rear window
deluxe mirror package
Reverse sensing system
tow package
Rear seat DVD system

Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about it. I plan to put on a Tri-glass tonneau and get Rhino lining for the bed. Interior, I was planning to get some floor mats (either Husky or Catch Alls). Here's what I need advice on: For ventvisors: is the qwik-snap a good set? Is Bugflector good for the hood? One of the local dealers here also has a Luverne grill guard that looks pretty good (black powder coat) and I was considering that also, just not sure what the advantage is to having it and don't want to risk having "too much" on my truck. Finally, my dealership has a paint protection application that they offer for about $500 and it guarantees the paint unconditionally for 5 years (meaning any damage to the paint in that time results in a new paint job for my truck) and limited lifetime warranty. Has anyone else gotten anything similar and would you recommend I get it? This is my first new car and I plan on making it last me for quite a long time.
Thanks for any advice!

First of all, congratulations on your order and welcome to the board. You're going to love this machine.

Secondly, a lot of the guys/girls here that have ordered SuperCrews lately are seeing one heck of a delay here lately. I ordered a Super Cab in mid December and it only took 5 weeks. I'll let the SCrew owners comment about their wait.

1. If you are considering Rhino, look into Line-X. I got the Line-X and it is great. This is my 3rd truck with it. If you are happy with the Rhino, by all means stick with them but it never hurts to explore other options.

2. I prefer the Xtreme Catch Alls, but if you like the carpeted ones, more power to you. I got the rubber floor mats from the Ford dealer with F-150 'etched' into them...about the same price. I am assuming that if you got the Aspen/Beige, then your interior is the beige/tan as well? The carpeted Catch Alls are a little darker that the Ford interior. Some guys have pictures you could look at...run a search for "Catch Alls"

3. My buddy has the qwik snap and swears by them. I got the outside channel mount from Ford...once again about the same price. They have always worked for me and I didn't feel like changing.

4. SOME guys are seeing some hood vibration with the bug deflector, and it doesn't seem to matter which make you buy. I got the low profile from Ford for about the same price as the AFTMKT ones and am totally satisfied with it. The only problem is Ford only offers the 'smoke' color (which is what I wanted anyway).

5. On your Luverne grill guard, again, make sure you shop around. This is only personal preference, but I drool everytime I look at YellowFX4SCrew's Manik Grill Guard. Check out his gallery...https://www.f150online.com/galleries...cfm?gnum=3392. Beers for him on one HELLUVA find!

6. I'd be hesitant to get the so called "paint protection application". For 500 bucks it sounds like a money maker for the dealer. I have personally never heard of it. Find out more about it. Is it just another clear coat? And how 'limited' is this lifetime warranty? Sounds to me like normal road wear (rock chips, blowing sand, etc.) would be excluded. Also, I doubt they'd paint the entire truck, probably just the damaged section and then blend to the adjacent panels. I just don't know of anything that could be applied to the paint to protect it well enough that they feel comfortable backing it up for 5 years. If it's out there, 500 bones is one hell of a deal.

Hope that helps and didn't bore the crap out of you.

Again, welcome. We've got a great group of people here, you're going to learn a lot.

vtn98,

Welcome to the forum! You ordered a great truck. There's been some posts indicating that the DVD systems are being held up...you may want to inquire with your dealer on that to see if it will affect your anticipated delivery date(you can see this thread for some more info.: Now my truck won't be here until May possibly .

Tuff Ford did a great job answering your questions. I too would be very wary of the "paint protection application"...but would need to know more about it. Are they talking about paint protection film by 3M?

The "paint protectant" is just a very expensive silicone based wax job.

Some dealers push them because they are extremely high profit/low cost items. I just call them rip-offs.

Thanks for the heads up on the paint protectant. I figured that's what it might be.

As for the delay with the DVD system, I talked to my dealer today and he said that there was a delay, but production was restarted and according to his system, it was looking like 5-6 weeks from today it should be in.

Sorry man, but that is not true.............

I spoke with Ford Customer Relations yesterday (been speaking to them quite a bit lately) and they told me that not only has production not started back up for the trucks with dvd system, but they do not know when it will start up. Originally, I was told March they would start production again. They will not tell me what the problem is with the dvd systems.

I ordered my SCREW December 8th, and they are telling me it won't be here until April/May/or even possibly June.

If you hear anything different, please let me know asap.

One piece of advice...........have you called the VOPC hotline yet? It is an automated phone system that will tell you the status of your truck. Mine is still clean and unscheduled after over 8 wks (because of the dvd system, or so I'm told)

If you need the #, let me know.

I don't have the VOPC number. Do I need VIN # to check it or anything (I haven't gotten that info, yet)? I'm not familiar with that process. If you can hook me up, I'd really appreciate it.

kats,
called the hotline last night and got the word that my truck was in production hold, but that was as of January 30th. So, the info was not very current on it and I figured I can wait a little while to try and call again with more updated info. Is it possible for me to get a VIN from that hotline, or do I have to get it from my dealer?

you can get the vin from the VOPC. Just speak to one of the Customer service reps.. My dealer did not have the Vin til last week... I had it by two weeks after I ordered.

If you speak to a customer representative, be careful what you say. If you say that you are the buyer, they won't help. Don't tell them that you are the dealer either. They usually don't ask, but if you volunteer info, you get nowhere.

My truck took 4.5 weeks. ordered 1/4 arrive 2/9, if it helps
