They made me put a $500 check down that they gave back to me and never cashed just in case they got audited I guess.
I bought with no cash down.

Do you have to settle on a price with the dealer when you place the order?

In Ohio, it's illegal for dealers to force you to put money down to place a vehicle order, or so my salesman says.

The A plan and D plan are prices Ford gives Ford employees and their families. The X plan is a price 4% (or threrabouts) over the X- plan price. I saved over 4 G's+ on my truck using it, and in addition they cannot charge you a documentation fee. Ford polices it so if you have a problem you actually have Ford corporate as your angel during your buy. Great for cars without giant incnetives, unformtunately right now the Explorer can be had for less than X-plan prices so know what you are doing prior to just jumping in.

You should be able to use it to order, and if your company is X-plan actice you can go to fordpartner.com and see any Ford car or truck (with VIN number) and see what is on the dealer lot and what you should pay, as well as what you should save.

The plan is great for the '04 so go to HR and see if your company is a member of the X-plan, Ford encourages it so a ton of companies are. Led to the best car buying expreience I have had.

I also ordered my 04 XLT using X Plan. Check with your employer. If they are a Ford Partner, they will give you a code number to put into the website. Once there, you generate a PIN and take that to the dealer.

Another good thing about X Plan is you also get any rebates or low finance rates available to the vehicle on top of the X Plan price. If you order, it's what's in effect when the vehicle comes in, not when ordered.

My dealer required a $500 fully refundable deposite. Around here, F150's are moving pretty well, so they aren't discounting too deeply, so X Plan with a $1,000 rebate was a good deal. As was mentioned in another post, on some other vehicles, you can do better without it.

Good luck.

I ordered mine over the phone with a dealer the next state over. I did give them a $500 deposit on my Discover card. I checked my Discover card statement online and they never put the charge through. We also negotiated the price of my trade right over the phone, 2001 Lariat supercab and the deal was done. Its been a month now and I did take a ride over there two days ago just to make sure the trade was to there likeing, the dealer is only about 50 miles away. The salesman I had left the dealer and they new nothing about the trade but stood by the deal we made. I think they were suprised at the excellent condition of my truck. The deposit is refundable if you don't take the truck so you really cant get hurt ordering.
