1 or 2 honks

Being a new Ford owner I might have come accross an interesting tidbit that may be well known to most of you, but anyway here is an interesting FYI I ran accross today...

Using the factory keyless entry to lock the truck as I am walking away I always push the lock button twice, the truck always responds with a single honk - I know it's locked tight.

Today it responded with 2 honks. After a short time investigating I realized it was from the door not being shut completely.

1 honk = doors secure
2 honks = door is ajar

I found that interesting, hope you do too.

(sorry if I am repeating something that is common knowledge).

3,000 miles and counting !!

I noticed that too, unfortunately, not until I came back to the truck the next day. The good thing is, that's when I found out that the interior lights go out after a certain amount of time to save the battery, so it was a win-win situation.

Thanks for posting though!

since were doing some educating here..did you know that on the Ford ( maybe other brands but I have only owned Fords with Cruise) Anyway, when the cruise control is set every time you hit the Set button the MPH increases by ONE MPH and when you hit the Coast (CST) button the MPH decreases by ONE MPH. Just thought I would pass that along, a lot of guys dont know that.

So whats the difference if you hit the lock button just once and no horn sounds vs. twice and it does sound?

It may be buried in the manual somewhere, but I can't find it.

Mine seems to lock up just the same with one push or two the only difference is the horn sounds with two.

if you hit the lock button 3 times, it will honk twice too. you can hit the lock button x times and it will honk x-1 times. not that this is usuful, but hey, i just thought i'd share.

also, when there is a cat sleeping under your truck, hit he panic button for hte alarm on the key chain, they love that one...

It's just an audible confirmation that you've locked the doors.

Ummm, No, Dr. No. He didn't say squat about one click and no horn. You go reread the post.

And if you reread my post, I said I dug through the manual and couldn't find anything referring to the "one click, two click" difference.

If my question seemed stupid to you, then move on to the next post, bro.

Thanks BrewMaster and Suds - the confirmation tone being only that (and nothing else) is what I missed the first time around.

I went back through the manual and there it is on page 86.

Something else I did pick up this time around is that not only will the horn chirp twice on a door ajar (as stated in the original post), the lights will NOT flash.

I'm sure XLT XTC was just trying to be helpful. However, the following is from page 86 of the owner's manual. Hopefully this put this one to rest. I've inserted the word lock where there was a lock symbol in the manual.

Locking the doors:

1. Press lock and release to lock all the doors. The parklamps will flash.

2. Press lock and release again within three seconds to confirm that all the doors are closed and locked. Note: The doors will lock again, the horn will chirp once, and the parklamps will flash once more. If any of the doors are not properly closed the horn will make two quick chirps and the headlamps will not flash.

I found this out by accident also, but just now understanding it. I had washed my truck in 6deg weather, and the switch that tells the computer that the door is closed got frozen and my door was showing ajar when it was actually closed. I had walked away from the truck and hit the button twice and it beeped 2 times, and I thought "that is weird" and went back to find the interior lights on, etc and realized my switch had frozen.

Didn't put 2 and 2 together till you mentioned this. Thanks for the info.
