Finally installed Remote Start

Well its done, works great. I went with the Ford Powercode sliver. I installed it on Monday it took me about 3-4 hours but I took my time. Not very hard to do and I installed the indictor (flashing light) next the the factory one on the top of the dash. seeing both of those lights flashing looks pretty cool.

Some wires do change colors from the instructions but with a test light you can find the right ones..

I'm thinking about getting a remote starter too. I'd like to go the Ford route. How many different kinds do they have? You said it was the Ford Silver, so I'm assuming there's more than one. How pricey are they? I'd like the dealer to install mine. But then again, I only have a month of cold weather left, so I could take my time in deciding during the spring and summer.

sorry, but since when does the Silver kit have a flashing light? The Silver kit is not an alarm, it's just keyless entry with remote start. We have the Silver kit on a Sport Trac. The light only comes on when you're programming the system options.

The Silver kit should not be more than $250 with the Securelok/PATS bypass module included seperately. This is the place I buy my discount Ford accessories from: www.fordpartsfast.com

Don't know what to tell you.. The older ford systems (last year) were not made by powercode they were call just Code. I dont know if thats the difference.. I think in the programming Bank 3 choice 3 makes the light flash.

To answer Guigster, it goes bronze, silver, gold (i think)

Bronze is remote start

sliver is remote start with keyless

Gold is remote start with keyless with VSS (alarm) with sieren.

I payed like $150 plus $30 for the PATS box.. But I work for Ford and get a large discount.. I think retail is like $235.00

oh I see....mine is over 2 years old. I'll have to check my book to see if it can be programmed to flash.

I believe the units used to be made by Code-Alarm. So are you saying a different company now makes them for Ford? Powercode?

ok, I did a quick search. The units are still made by Code-Alarm, and PowerCode is the new technology they use. It seems like the new units can be upgraded by loading software to them or something. here is a link I found:

Ford is now offering a remote starter. it's in the Ford.ca website anyways. It's a $213 (CDN) option.

I would never get a remote starter put on my vehicle again, i had one on my 99cougar and it had alot of electrical problems when i traded it in. I blame it on the starter. It wasn't a ford one, it was "autostart" and besides, gas is too expensive to be idling your truck for 10-15mins. Just plug in the truck, it takes no time for the heat to come on.

question, I did an add on remote start. It came with a key chain but I hooked up a pulse wire. So I use my factory key chaine and lock the doors 3 times and it starts. However, with it running I cannot use the unlock button to unlock the door. Any thoughts?

I dont remember the right color but heres were I had a problem ..The wire in the passager door boot to attach to the module for door unlock sense was not there (the color listed that is) I think it called for a red with a pink tracer. But that color was not in the door so I used a test light and found the needed wire..

To anwser the other question. NO the kit does not come with instructions you have to download them from the ford site. which I think only dealers have access to.

Supercrew04,

Could you give me a quick rundown on what it took to install the Ford remote start kit yourself?

Ordered my truck 2/16 and am interested in getting it and possibly installing it myself, especially if it's nothing more than plugging in a relay and programming the remotes.

Specifically, I'm interested in if there is any soldering involved.

If you have the instructions in .pdf format or something and can e-mail them to me, that would be great too, but just a quick synopsis woud do.

Thanks,

Jake

By the way, my truck will come with keyless entry.

Do I just need to buy the kit with remote start only, and not the "remote start with keyless entry" kit?

Jake

2-Way is the Way to Go

I had a Power-Code CA-540 auto start installed in my 04 Screw and it comes with a flashing blue light, but has no alarm. I assume it's a theft deterrent feature.

As far as I have seen Ford only offers the three units and they are all ONE-WAY systems. The CA-540 is a TWO-WAY system and is really a nice feature to have. I had a one-way system on my former 01 Screw and this two-way system is so sweet. Professionally installed for $350 including the PATs unit.
