General tires?

My previous F250 LD ran over 48,000 with Goodyear tires...no problems and tread to spare when I sold it. The '04 XLT Screw came with 4-ply Generals (2 nylon, 2 steel belts). There has been absolutely no mention of that brand being on your truck on any threads. Am I the only '04 owner with OEM General tires? What kind of wear can I expect from them? I'm sure getting mucho bed shake over small surface bumps with these tires at 34 lbs.

I know where your coming from. I have the same tires. I was in such a hurry to buy the truck I didn't even think to check what type of tires were on. I looked soon after I bought and was "What the ****!" My old 01' Altima had this brand of tire on it and they felt like plastic on the road surface! So far these haven't been as bad as the set that were on my old alty but I am also curious as to the life I should expect from these tires.

I still have them. Not too impressed, but with these damn 17' rims, I would have to take out a 2nd mortgage on my house to replace them with anything worth a crap.

What package, if any, are they coming with?
Personally, I hate general tires. My '97 had around 25,000 miles and I noticed a huge chunk of tread missing from one of the tires.
Like it was a retread or something. Junk!

I went for the 18s and they had a choice of a P or a LT tire. I went for the LT because I usually have a trailer and was worried about the weight. And thought there might be a chance I would get the Goodyear wrangler AT/S. Love em

All 4X2 that come from Kansas City plant have Generals ,if they are built in Norfolk they come with Michelins.I knew my truck would come from KC (as all flairsides currently do) so I located another dealer stock truck on the lot with same wheels and Mich. tires and had the salesman swap them as soon as my truck came in. (Hats off to KC assembly by the way,my truck is near perfect!) RW

Tuff,

You think the 17s are bad, I'm cringing at the thought of replacing those damned 18" Goodyear ATSs on the Lariat when the time comes. I'll stick with them though. Had them on the '01 Screw as well and really liked them. Great in the MN snow.

My '04 FX4 SCrew came with Generals on it. They seem reasonably ok so far. Though, with the snow over the past few days, they sure seem to slip and slide around quite a bit. Can't turn corners worth a darn, even in 4x4 mode.

I also have the 17" Generals on my 04 Scab XLT. I can honestly say they are junk. I (as already mentioned) can not corner in
the snow and as far as traction they suck. I will run them as far as I can as the price is a big factor and I already am putting money into a exhaust (magnaflow 15821 cat back) on the truck.
I had trouble justifing to my wife that purchase when she got the recipt in the mail and I havent told her yet I bought it. I am not sure what tire I will put on when I have to replace them the favorite hear seems to be BF's.

When you do replace them get the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S. I had them on my 2000 XLT Scab. I got 55,000 mi. on the original set and they still had tread left. The price for the new tires ( 265/70R17) from the Goodyear dealer was $173.00 per tire plus new stems, balancing,4-wheel alignment. Total cost $841.00 including tax

Thanks for all the replies. My suspicions are confirmed...(1)General tires may be considered a 'lesser' brand (I believe they have something to do with the ride/suspension dynamics that cause the bed shake I've discussed on 2 other threads) and (2) Goodyear Wrangler ATs are great tires...OH, I forgot to mention that the tires I was so pleased with on the '97 were Wrangler ATs. And, yeah, Michelins are great too.
