running boards ???

Well the time for me to order is getting closer and I am still alittle unclear about the running boards.

I do like the chrome tube factory board, but quality of the product is a little unclear ( seen a new 2003 on the lot with the chrome tubes starting to rust )

I also like the dealer installed chrome running boards , they seem alittle larger diameter 4 or 5 inch

Next option is the aftermarket tubes ie. Westin or DEE ZEE. etc. They are claiming never to rust because they are stainless steel

Another thing to consider, are the factory tubes going to put me in the 12 week or more waiting club for my truck after I order.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. With the amount of salt they use here in Toronto - the rusting issue is definitely a problem.

running boards

winters: I have a 2001 supercrew with the chrome tubes and I love them. But just a note my new truck was held up for two weeks because of the running boards. I ordered the same one's with this one but they are back ordered so I have to take it with out them until they come back in stock. But deffinately the chrome one's again.

Hope this helps

For what it's worth, I believe the Ford chrome side step bars (oval dealer installed) are chrome-plated aluminun. I installed mine...they are too light to be steel. By tapping on the factory bars I inspected on the lot, I'm guessing they are not steel either.

I have the factory black tubular boards on my 04 FX4 scab, the color is dark shadow gray, i would rather have crome or polished alum. (if they make them ) the black boards look kinda drab with grey truck

I think all the holes are pre-drilled. I just took mine off and it was a matter of 8 bolts and 15 minutes.

Mine are for sale on Ebay now.

Winters

the holes for the running boards are pre drilled. Only reason I know is because we put my last set on. Just make sure they line up correctly.

hope this helps!

I have the black tubular factory running boards on my FX4. I chose them specifically because I wanted no outside chrome whatsoever on my truck. Don't like the chrome. Like the black.

I am with Guigster! I think the black looks sharp. I had the black ones on my last two trucks. I don't care at all for the platform running boards, but I like the nerf bars, or steps, whatever you want to call them. I have some on order now.

**Hey JMorri - I have looked on Ebay and didn't see your running boards, can you send me the item # or the link?
