Well I was driving by a chevy dealership and i saw a Silverado that had some cool rims on it, it was a regular cab and it had a billet grill. I stopped in to look at it, I was wondering if it was a new package that chevy offers, but apparently this dealership just adds stuff like that to their trucks to make them more appealing i guess. Well anyways the rims were 18' and this dumb *** salesman comes out and says, isnt this a great looking truck with 20' rims, i was like no, then he said you mean you dont like the way it looks, and i was like i like the way it looks it just doesnt have 20' rims, then he looked at the price sheet and said oh, then i said later, i wouldnt buy a truck from you if you were the last salesman on earth because you dont know your head from your ***
ps just so you know i had no intention of buying the truck cause i want a 04 f150 so bad, i just wanted to look

Most salesmen couldn't inform anyone on what's even in the brochure; it always surprises me. When I bought my Lightning the other day, the salesman said "You sound like you know about Lightnings. I know very little about them. Would you say that you were fully informed on the survey so we can keep our 5 star rating?".
i am still waiting to meet a "smart" salesman. Salesmen dont know jack sh*t. it doesnt matter what delaership you go to, whether it be GM, Ford, or dodge. Does any body know why car salesmen are so stupid?
One time a salesman told me that one of the escaladesv in stock had supercharged brakes. then i asked him (jokingly) if they make the car go faster and his reply was "of course it makes the car faster, any car with supercharged brakes is fast." i wanted to shoot him.

LMAO
These guys wonder why we still haggle prices. Why we don't believe their banter.
HAHAHAHA
What kills me is that Blue Oval Certified is meant to get rid of these guys. So any dealer that balks at Blue Oval more than likely has these reptiles on staff ready to sell you undercoating and 28" rims.
i just bought my truck from what just might be the only smart salesman.
several times during the process we were discussing diffrent options and such when i would ask a question that he obvisiouly did not know thw answer to...and his reply was "hold on a minute and let me check with some one else about that". he would return with some good info. did not try to upsell me on options i did not want and got me what i consider(after many hours of internet research), a fair price. in general a straight shooter, and overall a really nice car buying experience.
oh yeah...

i think its because they are not trained to know the information about every vehicle on the lot, they are only trained to lead people into a purchase. the ones that do know about it probably just are real interested in the vehicle and did their research. like most of the people here if they were car salesmen they could tell tons of information on the 04 f150 but couldnt say a thing about most of the other vehicles.
My salesman wasn't too bad, probably way up the food chain compared to most. He was able to speak intelligently about the truck, differences from the previous model and even discussing the failsafe mode. Of course he was new, so he'll never last. Most that I've talked to could be selling shoes or fries and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. They know how to sell, but don't know a thing about their product. That's really a shame, but I guess it's how things work.
In my business (steel), when someone comes in and doesn't know what they're doing, they're gone...or their company is if they don't get fired soon enough. There was one who single-handedly lost $2.5 milliion in a single year getting aggressive

A lot of dealerships are doing this.
All brands...
I was bored one day, long before I bought my 04. I went around to all my dealers to take some test drives. When I got to the Chevy dealer, I found a 1500HD to test. I told the salesman that I had a Tahoe with Vortec 5.7 and 4L60E tranny. I had major problems with both of these. I wanted a truck with Vortec 6.0, since I have heard of many probs with the 5.3. This truck had the 6.0, but what I wanted to know was what tranny was with it, (4L60E, 4L65E, 4L80E). He scrathed his head, and went to get me an answer. He came back and replied it has an automatic tranny. I politely told him that I know that but I need to know which one. He left and came back and said it has a 5.3 tranny.
I again politely told him a 5.3 is a motor and this doesn't even have that. Another go-round and he tells me a 4-speed. So the 4th time I decided to go with him to see who he was asking. He was asking the General Manager!!!!!, I couldn't belive this guy had no clue. I said does it have 4l60e, 65e, or 80e? He looked at me like I was crazy. Anyway he sent me to a 19 year old mechanic who gave all the info I ever wanted and more.
The salesman said they attend a class on the vehicles, their textbooks are the brochures.

Salesmen mainly exist, I think, for the stupid buyer. There are more stupid buyers than informed ones, like us. I'm sure they hate us. But the money they don't make off of us, they rape the stupid buyer for. My stereotypical stupid buyer is they young first time buyer, the middle-aged single woman, the old couple...
Bikelover is right, about the motorcycle salesman. Mine had to keep going back to the general manager to try and work my deal. Finally the gm stands up on his podium and tells me quite loudly that "I don't like being held hostage in my own store". I said are you crazy, I am holding noone hostage, if you can't do my deal then someone else will. I called another shop, using my cellphone, they said they would honor my deal so I left. They ended up trying to play me around so I went back to the first place and they honored the deal.
