Question Rear end/trans slip?

I'm having a problem periodically that is starting to happen more regularly...When approaching a stop light, say maybe one to 1.5 city blocks away, I'll take my foot off the accelerator and coast in....when and if the light changes before I come to a complete stop I gently get back on the gas....well more than a few times now when I get back on the gas something misses....feels like a classic transmission slip to me, but for some reason it feels like the rear end too. Also at the same time the truck seems to lose about 50-75% of its power, and the engine actually bogs down. Is anyone else having this problem? Could this be related to the rear end shimmy (?) that others are experiencing? I really haven't had that problem. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with mine, I don't what it is though. It definately feels like it could be a tranny problem , though I wonder if it is related to the clunk that I get from the rear of the vehicle everytime I start from a stop.

Nope definitly NOT a shudder....its a slip...just can't tell if its the rear end or the trans...but by the way the engine seems to lose power...I'd bet its the tranny.

That thread lists a problem that I notice in addition to this one.

Ok...how long ago was this?....FINALLY got my truck into the shop for the 1st oil change and had them check on the slip as well. Guess what!....it was low on trans fluid!!!!....yep there was a leak in one of the lines near the cooler. Fixed the leak, topped off the fluid....and no more slip. Nice quick fix, however now I have more questions....If the trans was low enough on fluid to make it slip....shouldn't there have been some sort of idiot light flashing or something?....secondly, I'm glad I got this documented at the dealer beacuse after ridin on low trans fluid for a while...I MIGHT have done some minor damage?...only to be picked up on later? Guess that 6yr/100,000 mile warranty may come in useful after all!

If the tranny was losing enough fluid to affect its performance, you didn't notice the large spots under the truck?

Not flaming you, just curious how you could miss that.

OK, now I know its not me! I too have the same problem. I also have tghe shudder in which the parts are finally here and I'm scheduled to go in on Tues, for the fix. But ADDITIONALLY, when I'm approaching a red light, then all of a sudden the light turns green. When I get off the brake and hit the gas, it dies for a split second, then goes. But it "feels" like the engine is "shutting off for a second."(even though I know thats not the case, just trying to put the feel into words.)

I think I see a 2nd concern coming down the pipeline in this forum with regards to the new trucks.

The last thing you mentioned, hit the gas and it feels like it dies for a second, is probably the drive by wire throttle system. As far as I know they all have this slow response. Try easing into the throttle and see if the problem goes away. I have gotten use to it now.

Well, to be honest....It never even occured to me to check for leaks...I mean come on, the truck is/was 3 mos old at original post, not to say that vehicles that new don't leak, but I just really thought it was something else. That was my own stupidity. In my defense, I park in my driveway everyday and there are/were no fluid spots there. I would''ve noticed some nice red tranny fluid in all that white fluffy stuff.

@ 04F150SCCL,
That's the drive-by-wire throttle response problem. It happens to me, too, in the way that you describe. Very annoying!!! It's the only thing I don't like about my new '04.

OK, problem seems/ed to be solved, however within the last week, something (assuming the trans again) is starting to slip. I can definetly feel something that is not catching right away when the gas is hit from a coast. And this morning for the first time (and just barely detectable) since I got it back from the dealer, something slipped and the engine lost power from a dead stop....just like the problem expalined above in my original post. So....either the dealership assumed the leak was the only problem and stopped the diagnostics at that, or it was the only problem and now there is something else wrong. This time I have checked for fluid leaks on my driveway and there is none. I'll keep everyone updated as I think I will be in line for a tranny replacement down the line...who knows when.

I have had the problem with the rear end slip/shudder. A good way to tell if you have this is to back onto a slight incline when the truck is cold and start forward into a turn. The extra pull on the rear end will make it more noticable. Mine was fixed with the updated clutch pac. I've not had the problem with the stalling or hesitation described. The rear end slip was only noticeable when cold.
The whole problem with the leaking transmission cooler hose just reinforces my thinking that a skid plate is neede to cover that area.

THIS IS NOT THE SAME ISSUE AS THE REAR END SHUDDER...

THIS IS AN ACTUAL TRANS PROBLEM...

geo036 - May I ask which dealer/service dept you take your vehicle to (since I'm in the same area and am having a problem with the quality of the service dept)?
