Got my alpine installed
Got my Alpine 6.5 monitor in the dash tonight. I also got the Phantom face Alpine head unit installed where the ashtray used to go. Tomorrow I`ll get the sub amp in and I`m ready to rock
the alpine lcd comes with a metal mounting box and trim ring. the box is the exact size of the din opening. All you need to do is get the scoshe radio mounting kit and cut out around it and the lcd slides right into it leaving you the 4 fastner tabs. It took maybe 30 min start to finish to install it in the opening. I will take more pics later this weekend when the whole system is done and working. I have not cut or modifed anything on the truck so far. Everything is bolt in, keeping the factory appearance. I buy a new truck each year, so one of my goals is to make sure the truck can be put back to stock for trade-in and that nothing is damaged. Todays project is mounting the dvd player in one of the overhead bins. i bought the metro kit so I can have an extra bin to do it with.
I assume the Alpine is not touch screen. I would love to have the same screen with touch and navigation.

Hey Toddh,,what model screen is that? This has been the hardest decision for me to make as far as what equipment I want to put in my new truck. I have over $4000 worht of stuff I took out of my Mustang just sitting in the boxes in my bedroom. I was gonna go with a motorized screen but now that I see yours, thats awesome.
Does the shifter get in the way of using the head unit or putting a cd in it? Is there a mounting kit for the radio in the ash tray spot or did you hve to make one yourself? Please take some closeup pics if you can of the whole system, I would love to see it. Especially the dvd in the overhead.
Pepatrick..... Just some FYI..I was gonna get a touch screen also but have heard horror stories about them. Was told that you have to constantly clean it due to fingerprints on it all the time. Also I heard that some of the places you would touch all the time get messed up. The screen gets worn out. I dont have one and havent seen one like this yet but thats what I heard from a few people so I think I might steer away from the touch screen..plus when your buddies are in the truck , you know there gonna want to touch it just because its cool. That would drive me nuts...anyway let me know how you go. Im still trying to make up my mind, and who knows I might end up with a touch screen afterall.

Heres the specs on my system:
Head unit- Alpine CDA-7897 50w rms per channel
LCD screen : Alpine TME-M760 6.5 widescreen
DVD player: Din size dvd/mp3/svcd/vcd
Door speakers: Pioneer TSA6867 3 way
Subwoofers: 2 8-inch rockford fosgate in sub zero enclosures under rear seats
Sub amp: 600watt rockford fosgate
Here are pics of the overhead dvd player. This isnt done yet. It was just a fitting to see if its going to work. The player will pivot up into the overhead bin leaving a flush headliner apperance. I am working on the latch today. there is a remote IR eye that I have put next to the Head unit in the dash. I can now control the dvd via the remote and dont have to mess with the players buttons once I close it back into the bin.
So far I have not drilled cut or modified any thing on the truck to make the stuff work. The ashtray was removed and a stainless plate made to mount the headunit. It was then covered with a black plastic plate since I didnt like the brushed stainless look after install. The LCD screen is mounted using a modified scosche radio mount kit and bolts right into the 4 factory mount holes. I purchased the Metro overhead kit to get an extra bin to put the DVD player in ( I may end up cutting this however) And would only be a 50 dollar loss if I sell the truck next year. The sub zero boxes fit under both seats in the rear except you must move the jack.( I relocated it to the hump under the middle rear seat)
I had this system in my 03 and it performs well. It has clean sound and good bass (The rearview mirror shakes quite well
)
Now I have to wait till Tue. for the Metra wiring adapter to show up
I dont feel like cutting the radio harness even though I know the colors)
I will post a pic Tue. when the head units running . Its a Phantom face oversize and needs power harness thats on order to open up)

I forgot to mention the funny side of my install adventure. Our VCR in the quest bedroom no longer has a top on it since it was some good looking black plastic for the head unit install. Our dishwashers stainless steel replacement front from Sears is no longer sitting in its box in the basement waiting to be put on since it made an excellent mounting plate, And my wifes really going to yell come Mon. when she looks for her plastic Tupperware box that helped the dvd install out with and trys to pack her lunch for work. I really got to quit doing this stuff on holidays and sundays when I cant get out to buy stuff to make it work
Did you have to use a seat lift for the speaker box. I am looking at getting 2-12' subs for my scab. When I look at the seat I think there is no way in hell a speaker box is going to fit under there. I didn't get the audiophile system on purpuse because if I can find a good box two hold the 12's I will basiclly have a system 5 x's as good for about the same money. I made sure that I got the 6 disc changer though. Once there is a way to hook up Sirius straight to the radio I will be set.
Do you have a link to get the speaker box for the scab or anything else I might need to get the speaker box setup nicely under the seat?

No steering wheel controls in my truck. I have an alpine remote that works just fine for me.
Heres the link to the subwoofer boxes
Subzero
The 8 inch boxes are the only ones I know that fit completely under the 2004 seats. I find that with 2- 8 inch , it is more then I need in my truck. If you run 2 decent 8`s off a 4-600 watt amp you can get more bass then you need unless your a 16 year old kid wanting people 3 blocks away to hear you
I enjoy quality sound and dont need to impress anyone with a "who has the most watts" system.

Could you tell me more about the subs and boxes that you are using? I have two 8 jl's and am not happy with the low bass response from the box that I have now. Any thing you can tell, like model numbers and such. I am getting older and I know that the days of two high dollar 12's in my old explorer are behind me but sometimes I just get that need to play a song good and loud.
man o man this sounds awesome. I am forty years young and happy as a lark just to have this wonderful new truck (with audiophile).
I have been want GPS for a long long time, but I think the way I am going is with Garmin's new portable unti they have.
