Got my alpine installed
Garmin sounds like the way to go out of all the NAV systems I've seen so far, until Ford makes it OEM sometime this century.
I'd be curious to hear from anyone who has the Garmin 2610 unit, and how they like it, and if it came with everything necessary and/or if there were any hidden or unexpected costs associated with it.
I mean, I can get a little hybrid Toyota Prius for around 21k+ with NAV (and side-air and HID headlights), but my 40k+ F-150 Lariat doesn't even have the option. There's just something inherently wrong with that, and I doubt I can afford to trade-in my '04 for the model year when it's finally an option. Every 7 years for the next redesign is expensive enough for me!

I use a portable device that hooks into one of my notebook computers. It is awesome to have a full color screen to track my progress. Best of all it was under $100.00 and portable to any vehicle or boat.
A DeLorme product:Street Atlas with Earthmate for PDA or Notebook.

A friend of mine has the garmin streetpilot III and I was totally impressed with what all it was capable of doing.
I looked up the closest Bank One ATM to me and it was fast and accurate with the results.
His came with everything you would need. It's the way I am going as soon as my wife says I can.heheheheheh

steering wheel radio buttons only are on laraits.
but i really like the setup you have there. i am considering not getting the audiophile system just so i can put in my own custom setup. do you guys yreally think the audiophile system is worth the bucks they want for it? it looks like i will get the fx4, so not having steering wheel remote controls is another thing making me scratch my head... i always have domne y own systems in cars, and have been damn happy at the results. plus, the GF would wonder why i would replace speakers in a 550 dollar extra fee stereo. this way she wont care if i get the cheapo stereo.....

Todd,
Do you have any more pics of ypur system (subbox, amps mounted and a close up of the monitor in the dash)? If so, please post more. I am planning to do something similar when I finally get my truck. It looks awesome.

Sorry to drag up an old post, but I a mvery interested in the mounting of the LCD screen (as you can tell from previous posts). How hard was it to modify the Scosche mounting bracket for the screen to fit? I am hoping to find a Double-DIN mounting kit, but if the single-DIN is easy to modify this may be the ticket
Thanks
Thanks
Nope I am not on the R1 forum. I assume thats the yamaha street bike forum. I do own a YZF750r yamaha though. I started a gallery today to put some pics in. My gallery
As far as the person asking about mounting the lcd, the alpine 6.5 is the exact size of the opening the radio came out of. A scosche radio kit can be cut out so the mounting box of the lcd slides right into it, then you have the 4 tabs to go to the mounting screw holes.

OK, Just wondering. There's a guy on there named "Hulkster" and I noticed the hulk hanging from your mirror. His name is Todd, too.
Yes, it is a Yamaha streetbike forum. I have the R1 and I also race an R6 with WERA.
BTW, I love your innovativeness with your install. It really looks great. I've been looking for what direction I wanted to go with mine, but you have given me new ideas.
