Inside rearview mirror

Can anyone tell me how to remove the mirror? I am purchasing a auto-dimming mirror with HomeLink included. The new mirror will mount on the same mount that comes with the truck. I just am unsure of removing original mirror.

I'm not very familiar with the operating details of HomeLink...was wondering, will it interfere with the function of the compass sensor located at the mirror?

Where'd you get the mirror and how much. I'd like to add Homelink as well. Do you know how they work? I mean how does it work with multiple types of garage door openers? Is it like a universal remote type thing? If so then how come thieves don't go buy them and run codes till they find yours then break into your garage? Just wondering?

This is what you need. Cost is $179 through a dealer.

You would take your remote and hold it approx 4-6" from the mirror. Hold both buttons down and follow the directions. It will program each remote to each button. It's nice. I've seen it in the Lariat's and GM models and I love the idea.

I found out from the mftr that the mirror will be able to be used along with the current mount on the '04 F150's.

Now I just need to figure out how to remove the inside mirror without damaging anything.

When I was taking stuff apart on the inside of my truck to mount some lights and a siren for the Fire Department, I went to www.motorcraft.com and subscribed to the technical manual. This is the same manual the dealers use in the service dept. Very handy info. I downloaded all the stuff I needed on PDF files. you can subscribe for like 3 days and download all the stuff you need. Found out how to take the back seat back out and how to removed the middle of my bench seat. Also has wiring diagrams and such.

Worth a shot to look for the mirror stuff ...I can check when I get back home tomorrow from work. My sub is good to the end on the month.

Make sure you know how to install the new mirror before taking off the old one. Just had my windshield replaced at the dealer (among 14 other problems with the vehicle) and the when I drove out of the service bay, went to adjust the mirror and it was shaking something horrible and wasn't seated properly on the windshield. The dealer couldn't figure it out so they told me to stop by the glass shop that installed it. I did and they couldn't figure it out either. Said they would have to go look at some '04's at the dealer and will get back with me. My suggestion to anyone that is going to take their '04 into the dealer for repair..... ask first if they have worked on any '04s, if not, find a different dealer. Mine was a guiney pig. Good luck!

File Received...

However, I cannot take off the old mirror. Ford decided they didn't want any others on there.

Diagram was great, but the compass control is attached to the mirror. If I would remove OEM mirror I would loose compass control and my display would go down. Called Ford and they said that I would loose my whole display not just the compass reading. Decided not to go any further.

Oh that really sucks. Then Ford needs to get off their cans and make a mirror that is at least half as good as the one you ordered. Sucky sucky sucky. I hate when they play that kind of game.

I was wondering about that (the compass module)...

For future reference (windshield replacement or whatever) how does the mirror attach? I can see (what appears to be) a drift pin on the mount and then there is a screw on the compass module...
