Sliding rear window rattle?

I seem to have developed a wicked rattle coming from something inside the cab near the sliding rear window. I havn't had a chance to ride in the back while someone else drives to really try and locate it yet but I did notice that the rear slider is operated by wires that I assume pull the window in either direction chosen. Does anyone else have this problem? It is really starting to drive me nuts! Could it be the wire vibrating inside the window track and if so, is there a way to fix it?

Do you have the box liner that was what my rattle was where it clips over the front of the box . dealer just put some foam tape under where it clips over problem solved

would only rattle when it was dry if it was wet from rain washing no rattle

bigsherm77,

My brother was telling me today that he has a bad rattle coming from the rear of the cab and the only thing he could come up with was the sliding rear window everything else is tight. The truck is a supercrew with 4500 miles. If we find the problem I'll let you know.

I have the same rattle with 4,000 miles. Yesterday I said that I would have to get my wife to drive while I sat in the back so I could figure it out.

My brothers truck has been at the dealer for two days now while they try to figure out were the rattle is coming from. After two days of looking and testing they have concluded that the problem is with the sliding rear window. Dealer talked to Ford and said Ford was aware of a problem with a rattle in some sliding rear windows and that there would be a "TSB" issued when a solution was found. They did not say when. So we picked the truck up tonight and will wait to hear back from the dealer. A new sliding rear window sounded like a good solution to me but I guess they think the same problem will happen again so they suggested waiting for the fix.

I have about 4100 miles on mine and I heard my back window rattling. It was rattling really bad so I touched the switch and it closed just a little bit. I don't know how it got open just slightly, but it was open just a little bit. The rattle pretty much went away after that.

Since then, the window has rattled a few times and when it does I open the window a bit and then close it again. This seems to close it tighter and stop the rattling for a while.

This is definately not a fix but it is a sanity saver if you are like me and cannot deal with rattling noises.

I will be waiting for that TSB

Ford is now telling our dealer that the problem is with the rubber seal around the window and that they will have the fix in a week.
It's hard to believe the seal could would make such a rattle but when we wet the seal with a water hose the noise goes completely away.

Wink

I have the manual window and it rattles, it is clearly the window. Maybe the TSB will give me a free auto-slider instead... now that would be something.

I noticed a squeaky, rattling sound from my rear power slider as well. I sprayed Armor-All into the rubber trim on the outside and tightened up all the bolts that I could get to on the inside that hold the window in place. It seemed to take care of the noise. I think the cab has some flex over bumps, which causes the window to shift around a little bit. The fixed privacy glass rear window seems to be mounted completely different than the power slider rear window.

My truck also started doing to same just today...power slider. It's driving me nuts. It's completly quiet inside the cab, except for that damn rattle!!!
It's most noticeble when going over road imperfections. Truck has 1400 miles. Ford better come up w/a fix soon...

Well, I had my dad drive the truck so I could try and locate the rattle but we didn't hear it. I thought it may have to do with the lower temps we have had recently, but now I guess it has more to do with the rain/snow. I see if it stops when it dry's up. Thanks for the info.

I purchased my 2004 F-150 SuperCrew the beginning of Oct and I noticed the annoying squeek as well shortly after a few hundred miles.I dont have the sliding rear window though,I have just the plain rear window with no rear defrost. I work at a dealership and have been tempted to take it to the service dept for a solutin but I decided to just turn up the radio instead.I would like to have it fixed though so if anyone finds a solution I would like to know.

Don't know if this could be it or not but last night I was playing with the folding back seat in my SCrew and found the lug wrench and jack under the rear passenger seat. Could it be what is making the sound? Might just need to be repacked.
