Thumbs up Emergency Lighting for Firefighters

I received a email from a user here (and fellow firefighter) about where/how I mounted my dash light I use for emergency response.

I have posted a few pictures in my album, to share with anyone who may be interested of a Whelen Slimlighter LED Stobe that I mounted above my rear-view mirror. The power wire neatly tucks under the head liner and behind the rubber strip on the drivers side windshield post and then has a built in switch on the lighter plug (after routing it under the dash) that operates it.

Hope this helps some of you

The stobe came from www.lshlights.com

Even tho its not "legal" in Virginia, I plan on also installing "wig-wag" flashers back on the head lights (like my old truck) and I have the kit to add hidden strobes to the tail lights for added safety.

Well I was the one that emailed you and I must say that fits great. What did you mount the light to itself? I cannot tell in the picture.

I screwed up my front driverside headlight mounting strobe lights in it but the tailights works great I have moisture in my drivers side light.

I mounted the power supply behind the back seat which fit great in the spot where the power sliding window unit goes if you order it. Luckly the wife of one of our guys works at the Ford Plant in the next town that makes the head and tail lights so she is getting me replacemements.

I am going to cancel the light I ordered and order that whelen one

thanks

invoice says Slimlighter SLPMM LED Series, Six Ultra High - Red/White (red white cost more) . it was a little over 200 with shipping. I think that would be the high intens one. It is the newest one. My fire captain has the older one, its the same size, just has small LEDs where mine has LARGE ones.

Let me know if you need anymore info.

I figured it was the high intensity one by the way the picture looked.

So what did you mount it to? just use the suction cups that came with it?

I am wondering how those would hold up since my radar dectector used to keep falling off the windsheild when it got cold out with the suction cups.

sorry I fogot about the mounting when I first replyed. I used the standard suction cups that come with it. Its two of them and so far no problems at all (cleaned the glass well and gave them both a "lick" before installing. (smile) ) The mirror is tight against it too, so that helps support it, but its rock solid. I turned the mounts inside so the cups are over the light and positioned it as far to the top edge of the glass where it meets the headliner as I could.

And also "TXCoUnTrYbOy" there is no way I would ruin this nice ride with any type of stickers or logs on the sides.

As for the "Red" lights ....... the Commonwealth of Virginia, department of state police states that you can have "steady burning or flashing red or white light of an approved type" so that leaves a little room for different interputations. Depending on how good of a realationship you have with your local trooper/police

The police in Virginia use MOSTLY BLUE and a little red/blue combo, but mostly all Blue.
Blue or Blue/Red=Police
Red or White or both = EMS or Fire (amber on rear too)
Amber only = tow trucks ....VDOT ..etc

Cool thanks for that info about mounting...and I ordered the same light from your link..they had decent pricing compared to the other sites i checked out.

I got my siren in the mail today. Got the remote mount one..the actualy siren part will fit under the small section of the front seat since I have the 40/20/40 seats. I already ran the speaker wires to that spot under the carpet from the dash.

We pretty much use red and white lights here in Ohio...and you can light up your vehicle as much as you want. I like the hideaway strobes and the small dashlight like yours...

of course we have IAFF license plates here in Ohio, that along with the IAFF stickers front and back, everyone knows I am a firefighter.

I think Ford should make a firefighter package like they do with the police package stuff...I am sure a lot of departments and firefighters would by their products if they were already prewired for lights and sirens and whatnot...along with bigger batteries and alt.

Just a thought. I will post some pics when I get everything hooked up
