I know I would of, but it sure seems like manual transmissions are on the way out. Even in trucks and sports cars....what do you think? Dont' you think you get more control with a stick? or do you think the computer can make better/faster choices then the driver?

I like a standard transmission--especially when approaching traffic lights, dodging slower vehicles, or heading around an exit or on ramp to a major highway. After test-driving an automatic, I realized why people on the highway are on their brakes so much. I generally downshift and prevent the chain-reactiion syndrome. On the other hand, the auto tranny sure is smooth, easy, and responsive. I'm wondering whether it will ever be offered with the quick-tap shift like Mercedes has.

Yes, I probably would've.

I got this truck to tow & haul with, and towing I feel much better having a manual. Why? Downshifting is easier with it - (engine braking, whatever you want to call it). Also, the computer finds gears okay - but a lot of the time it doesn't know exactly what I'm thinking... It may not know that I'm going to stomp it to 60MPH then cruise RIGHT THERE... and it may wind like I'm going to stomp it to 70+whatever....

That may sound like small situations, but I could go on and on. Overall, the only reason I like an automatic is for driving in the city. However, I live in a rural countryside - and the closest I get to deep-city is running on I-95 - which has only been "stop and go" once in my experiences...

I almost didn't get mine because it only came in automatic. I prefer standard and was bummed they didn't offer it. I still keep my hand on the shifter like I used to in my Ranger.

I would love to have a stick in my truck. It was a blast driving in my '97 F-250 Crew Powerstroke 5-Speed. I never understood why the entire industy (at least in the US) seems to be moving towards the automatics, even in sportscars...

I like manuals - just traded one in on my FX4, however.....

It seems like I am stuck in stop and go traffic half the time I am commuting to work, and the constant clutching really begins to suck.

I would have bought the automatic even if a manual were available.

Man, I've always had Manuel trucks but this automatic's got me spoiled already. It may be hard to go back. Plus it's cool to do power braking burn outs with the automatic..

My '94 had the 5.0 w/ 5 speed manual. Loved it!

My'97 had the 4.6 w/ 5 speed manual. Liked it.

My '99 had the 5.4 w/ auto. I was over the manual!

My '01 had the 5.4 w/ auto. Set it and forget it. Too much traffic!

My '04 has the 5.4 w/ auto. I'm too old, too lazy and I love it!

I only wish Ford had the 5 speed auto for the '04. More is better!
