Safety, anybody?
Safety, anybody?
Hey all, still searching for the right F150......But, I have been searching for any crash test info/data for the '04 SCREWS and am having no luck. Nothing from NHTSA or Ford themselves, that I can find. We all know the "not so good" ratings the old F150s have received, and all Ford ever talks about is the new frame system. But, there is a lot more to crash safety than just a strong frame. this is going to be my family vehicle, and their safety is the #1 priority to me.
Does anybody have a link to a site that has this information or know of any tests they have heard of? NHTSA had test ratings for the Heritage lineup, which does not help me a bit.
Thanks for your time.
BTW, I was just at one of my local dealerships and saw a beautiful '04 SCREW Lariat 4x2 with leather, audiophile, power rear window, etc. Man, what an awesome truck. I thought I was dead set on a 4x4 XLT or FX4, but that Lariat has got me thinkin'.

In the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's offset frontal crash test, Ford expects the new F-150 to earn high marks, based on extensive internal testing. It also has been designed to meet the new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208, which regulates air bag as well as offset crash performance.

If you're talking about the 1-5 safety "records" for vehicles, the 2004 F-150 has been rated the highest (5) for both Passenger and Driver for head-on, side-impact, and rear-impact collisions.
buy the Lariat. you won't regret it. i don't. and i have yet to hear anyone say "i wish I bought a lower trim level instead of the Lariat." it may be possible, but i have yet to encounter it.
Dittos Brew, good advice. I am very happy with my Lariat 4x4. Same as Brew's but with two-tone

I could have bought the lariat, but choose the fx4. It is loaded with most everything that you can get in the lariat, but I like the painted grill instead of the chrome. That is why there are different trim levels.
Here is a link to some pictures taken of early 2004 F-150s. One of them shows an obvious crash test vehicle. I can't tell from the angle whether it was an offset crash or not.

I have had the same concerns. I too want to use the F150 Screw as a family vehicle. I don't understand why Ford did not put side airbags in the Truck, especially when they are touting the safety advantages of side airbags in their new mini van. The entire mini van commercial is about the added safety of side and curtain airbags. Yet, they left out of the F150. It is one of the reasons why I have not purchased an F150 yet. Also, the back seat should be more comfortable. The setback is too straight, not enough angle.
