Rumors for 05 or 06 improvements

Let me say clearly up front, this are unsubstantiated hear-say but I wanted to give people a heads up of some improvements that might be made in the next year or two.

I just talked to one of my company's salesman in Detroit. He calls on the big 3 and is in contact with many engineers. We are selling the seals for the capless fuel tank going on the ressurected GT. He tells me that the F-150 and the SuperDuty groups are looking to put that capless system in the 05s or 06s. It is exactly what the name says, no gas cap, just a door that swings and seals. It will be proven on the GT (only 3500 cars will be made) and if it does well we could see it on Ford trucks in the next few years. they are also investigating it for the Taurus and Lincolns. the next GT prototypes will be built in January, so I doubt it will get to the 05 F-150 in time, but we could see it in 06.

Also the F-150 group is investigating new carbon composite brake pads. low or no dust, no noise, and they last a long time (some say 100,000 to 130,000 miles, but that remains to be proven). the F-150 group is definately looking into answering the complaints about all the brake dust.

Yes...the brakes are my only real complaint. It reminds me of some of my past German rides...BMW and MB are awful on brake dust. My Audi was pretty bad too. The F-150 is not as bad as those, but at least with the wheels on the F-150...it is quite easy to clean them off.

oh I am sure that there were changes planned before the truck even launched. They couldn't make the truck too perfect first time out. They have to hold back some innovations for the mid-model redesign.

There's some new info on the Ford Media site about transmissions. Based on what I read when I glanced through them it sounds like 06 models may get a 6 speed automatic. As to the brake pads, I don't know if they're going to be composite, but one of the dealers I talked to said that Hotline is estimating that new pads to will be availble soon (usually means in the next few months) to stop the dust problem.
