Unhappy can't get it the way I want

Man it's something the way Ford limits your choices. I't like they shove somethings (probably the money makers) down your throat in order to get some of the things you want. Why can't I get leather seats in a regular cab? alot of other things the same. It's all in the packages.

I had the same problem buying a 2004 Crew. Ford is definetely in it for themselves, not us, but that's they way all of Corporate America operates.

One of the reasons for limiting the custom ability is to reduce build combinations. This makes it easier for the plant, and less likely they will screw (no pun intended) things up. That is why ford choose the 5 different trim levels, hoping each one would cater to a different type of person. They then set things standard on each trim level. I guess traditionally people who get regular cabs don't want leather. (don't worry, the screw seats in the back of a lariet are vinyl also!!)

Regular Cab with Leather

I had a '99 Regular Cab Lariat with leather. It was the last year they offered it and mine was the the only one I ever saw with leather. I'm guessing that Ford didn't sell enough of them to continue production. It wouldn't be so bad if Ford was offering a nicer fabric in non-Lariat models. I just don't find the new cloth to be very appealing.

There are some valid points to wanting to have your truck customized with certain color combinations and interior options. Afterall these things are expensive.

You have to understand that Ford does a lot of market research on what people want. There will always be exceptions, as they can not please everyone all the time. If you buy a BMW or Mercedes which in most cases cost a lot more than your Ford truck, you generally do not have many options either.

I dont think Ford is trying to screw people. They are trying to build a quality truck that most people want without throwing so many options your way that makes ording it too complicated.

Well, I just picked up my truck and find the seats somewhat disapointing. I think even offering vinyl in an XLT {it's only available in the XL) would have been better than the cloth they are offering. Does anyone have any aftermarket leather seat sources they could recomend?

keanie,

Ask your dealer who they use to add aftermarket leather. This actually may be a good thing in your case. Aftermarket leather is usually better than the factory leather and it should be about the same price. Before I got my truck I looked at several others and found out that you can you get leather put in a SCrew for about $1000-1200. Should be half that for a RCab.

katzkin.com has the best leather after market seats. I believe that have a kit for the 2004 F-150s. It is worth investigating. I have I had to do it all again..I probably would have purchased a FX4 with cloth and had Katzkin do the seats for it in leather. Katzkin did the leather seats in my old Toyota Tundra and they were fantastic...

This is exactly why I got an FX4 in Dark Shadow Gray and optioned it up as close to a Lariat as possible. Ford used to offer Gray on the Lariats, why did they stop?

You would rather have vinyl than cloth?

What are you smoking? I have vinyl seats now and I pray every day that my new truck will arive soon (with leather). Trust me vinyl seats are miserable. How bad can a cloth seat be that you would prefer vinyl?

I currently have the black sport cloth in the 04 FX4 Regular Cab. I have no complaints about the surface at all. I think the seats are comfortable and supportive.
I guess I'm not looking for recliner-style comfort while I'm driving. Staying awake is a good thing...

Dupuis,

Sorry to break it to you. See the following post. The outlined areas in the photo are the ONLY areas in the back of the Screw that are leather.
