Nobody likes flaresides?

So I've been lurking here for about a month (since I ordered my TrueBlue Flareside FX4 with all the options) and I've noticed very few flaresides in the galleries here or at the local dealerships.

I really like the look of them, but I wonder why they appear not to be that popular. Is there something functionally negative about them that I just haven't thought of, or is more of an issue of taste?

It seems to me with the high bed sides having that extra step there will really come in handy.

What am I missing?

Zeus,

Didn't you get the memo? Nobody's buying flaresides anymore - they are out of style!

Actually, I love the look of a flareside but my needs dictated supercrew seating. I can't imagine Ford making a supercrew with a 5' 6" bed that's a flareside.

Congrats - like the blue.

I guess most people just prefer the extra space in the box instead of the steps on the side.

Stepsides have always been a little hot roddy (a good thing I think), just not for everyone.

Enjoy your own sense of style, thats the way it should be.

And don't forget to post some photos so we can see!

I think the main reason you do not see so many flare sides on here, is there are not that many of them. They have not made a lot of flare sides yet. If I ever have a chance to find a flare back end in black, I will stick it on my lariat. I wish they made the Lariat in a flare side. I would have been all over it.

Nice photos Jason. Thanks. I love the red with the flareside. Looks very sharp. I almost went for red, but pulled the trigger on blue instead.

Mine should have been produced TODAY, so I'm hoping it will be here in a couple weeks. I'll post pics as soon as I get it.

Can't Wait!

K.

The only thing I don't like about flaresides is the tie downs. Other than that, they are really nice looking. I too wanted screw cab, so flareside wasn't an option.

I actually have not cared for the previous flaresides much. This new style is a little more appealing, especially in certain colors, IMHO. I like the more "chisled" look. That's what I ordered.

Also, I don't think anyone mentioned the price. IIRC, it adds around $1,500 to sticker. I'm sure that sways many of those on the fence to go with the styleside.

To each his own. In the grand scheme of things they are all awesome.

So come to think of it.....

As I like the flareside too......is there any real reason why it couldn't appear on a supercrew ?

I saw a few flareside's driving around Dearborn before the official release of the 04 and was in love with them. The truck looks very sporty and aggressive with that bed...I love the tie downs, I just can't get past the tail lamps and how BIG they are. I completely understand why their so big but I just can't look past it.

Just like anything else, if I see it enough I'll learn to like it

The main reason that you have not seen a lot of flaresides is that Ford is not making many -- the flareside opt. is only produced at KC and this is also the only location currently making SCrew -- I'm sure you have seen the waiting buyers for the SCrews and the production rate is low fro that box line as well -- I Love my Flareside (I'm getting Line-X this Friday) the only neg I have is that I'm trying to get a soft flipup cover and although extang has a part number they have not designed it yet (guess I'll need to wait) Enjoy being one of the Few
