Temperature reading

Is your outside temperature reading wrong. Mine is almost 10-25 degrees off. It said 20 but it was 45 out side. Do I have to take it to the dealer to get fixed?

Thanks
Steve

It's a known problem, take it to the dealer and get it fixed. I haven't had the problem yet, does it affect your heat i.e, does the truck think it is colder than it really is and keep the heat blasting?

It is only a sensor outside. It has nothing to do with the heat.

SteveV:

You are thinking logically but that is not the way it is. There has been many posts on this board about this problem. You have to take it in and have the computer updated via download to correct the problem. Replacement of the sensor will not do it & yes, it impacts your Heater/AC system.

It seams some people need to be hit over the head
before they will accept anything.

All 2004 F 150 trucks built before OCTOBER 6 2003
need the update.

The reason it was not fixed when they were built
it was not known until 50,000 trucks were built.

Dr No-

I took delivery of my Screw in early Sept., and dont even think about slappin' me upside the head - you wouldn't care for the repercussions... my temp sensor is right on, my headliner is tight, my airbag sensor works, my ash tray doesn't rattle, my steering wheel doesn't shimmy, I get brake dust on my wheels, and my dash coin holder works...

Therefore, you are simply... wrong.

My truck is perfect, so far, and I am lovin' it! And, I don't think I'm out here all alone!

Had mine since august and no probs yet (just like slappaddle) However, should I get the update anyway? Could this help to avoid future problems? I apoligize if I don't have enough of a life.

Never hurts to take in a truck under warranty and have the update done to the CPU. It is software code just like you buy from the store or download from the web. Updates usually fix the bugs in the prior releases…

Steve V,

Take it in for the PCM flash.

Here is the SSM (Special Service Message) from Ford:

17261 2004 F-150 BUILT BEFORE 10/6/2003 - AMBIENT TEMPERATURE READING INACCURATE AND/OR POOR A/C PERFORMANCE
SOME 2004 F-150 VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 10/6/2003 MAY EXHIBIT AN INACCURATE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE READING AND/OR POOR A/C PERFORMANCE. TO SERVICE, REPROGRAM THE PCM TO THE LATEST LEVEL USING WDS B27.10 RELEASE OR HIGHER

It DOES affect heating/cooling in the respect that the A/C compressor will not engae in the Auto Mode below 34degrees F. Without the flash, the outside temp will work, it just takes forever to get to the correct temp.

Took mine in today to get a oil change and fix the temp reading, I told them about the flash update, but why listen to a dumb customer. They replaced the whole sensor unit which they had to get from another dealer.

Seems to be working fine know.
