Wheel problem

I did have a problem with vibration in the steering wheel and I took the truck back to the dealer & all the tires were out of balance. They fixed the problem and now the truck drives like a dream.

When buying a new car always:

1) Shake the salesman's hand
2) Wipe your feet
3) Wave goodbye
4) Drive to the mechanic and get an alignment and the wheels balanced
5) Enjoy!

I have to say......

Why in the world would I drive my brand new truck to the mechanic right after buying it? Alignments and things should be dead on from the factory and if not it is the dealers place to have the vehicle in road ready condition........I had to say that.

the dealer nails you with the prep charge... so yes it had better be working when you pick it up!

I have had a few new cars in my life and this was the first time I ever had a problem. I can't see paying x amount for anything and it's not working they way it should from day 1.

Here's my recent experience. 04 F150 Supercrew Lariat. Noticeable and irritating steering wheel vibes. I am used to getting wheels balanced and front end aligned on new cars, usually within the first 5k miles. I took the truck to my favorite specialist front end shop. They've been doing my wheels and tires for two years...they know my name. Tech showed me two tires that were out of round (lateral runout) that he said they should be warranty replaced. The other two, he said, were fine. I went directly from that shop, carrying my receipt showing what the tech said about my tires, to the dealer, made an appointment for next day to bring truck in for exam. Next day, truck at dealer all day. Later afternoon the service rep tells me that all four tires are fine, but that the road force balance done by my favorite shop was botched, badly. He said they re-did all four wheels. Truck now is pretty smooth. So I have what appears to be an argument between mechanics. I haven't yet raised the issue with my front end shop. They charged me $52 for the four wheels balance, but Ford charged me nothing to re-do it. I hate when this happens.

In a perfect world maybe. I'm just telling you what I've heard. I don't think Ford spends a lot of time making sure that your alignment is perfect, and I know the dealer doesn't. There was another thread posted by somebody who said his tires were unbalance and alignment was off. It does happen.
