My story and my 04 F150 Lariat Supercrew

Warning this may be a long read.

First a little background: My mother just bought a new 04 Suburban (her 2nd Suburban, my dad drives a 01 Silverado (his 3rd Chevy truck) and on a recent trip to San Diego in July, I saw my brother’s new 03 Chevy Avalanche. I drove a 01 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab for almost 3 years (up until last Friday) which is twice as long as I have EVER driven any one vehicle. I have always been the “get a new vehicle every year or so” kinda guy. I was extremely satisfied with my Toyota but with a growing family and interest rates low, I knew a replacement for the Tacoma was on the horizon.

As I said, I went on a business trip at which time I saw my brother’s Avalanche. I had never been to impressed with them and even thought them a tad on the ugly side. We got together one evening for dinner and he picked me up at my hotel in the Av and went for a ride. This is when I decided that my replacement vehicle would be an Avalanche. It was the smoothest, plushest, comfiest truck I’d ever been in.

I returned from my trip with Avalanche on the brain, my quest had begun. I found several vehicles that fit my criteria (sunroof, leather, drivers convenience etc) but could never get the deal I wanted (mostly because I could never get a decent trade in). After 2 months I had all but given up and decided that the Tundra 4 door would be my replacement when it arrived in December.

Friday, I went to my Toyota dealership (happens to sell Ford also) to get my oil change and scheduled maintenance. While I waited, I took a trip down the line to look at the new F150’s (I was intrigued by the new interiors). Well the next thing you know I’m test driving a new 04 F150 Lariat Supercrew.

Let’s just say that the idea of Avalanche or anything else just drifted away with that first drive. I actually drove it about 150miles (they told me to take it for the evening) before I really decided to buy it. I got what I wanted for my trade in, I paid the price I wanted for the F150 (sticker was $36400, I walked out with it for $33k tax, title, and license included).

I can’t believe that I, ME, am driving a Ford but I tell you between the dealership (best damn people I’ve ever had to deal with and I’ve bought A LOT of cars) and the products they sell I couldn’t be happier. The last 3 days as I’ve driven past the Chevy dealership, I’ve just looked out and grinned.

The dealership is Philpott Ford in Beaumont, Tx. They have Toyota and Hyundai also. My salesman was Willie Pickens, he's new to the business (maybe thats why I liked him, no pressure )

Great truck and a great story. I too considered an Avalanche at one time, but they are just soooo hideous. I swore I would never buy a Ford again after the abysmal 86' Ranger I had way back when. WORST CAR EVER MADE. But the reviews of the 04' F-150 here and elsewhere brought me back. Have fun!
