Ram Air

The first thing I though of when I saw the new engine (5.4l) was that it was a perfect candidate for a type of ram air hood setup. I think that because of the straight shot it would be worth it. I can't wait until the aftermarket gets on this truck! What do you guys think?

I don't profess to be an automotive induction engineer, but I'm wondering if modifying the 5.4 air intake system would be beneficial. Note the ribbed expansion chambers (3) on the stock system. Those are there for the purpose of absorbing air shock waves in the induction tube as the engine air demands are constantly modified by the varicam/intake reed valve system of the new 3V.

Certainly, switching to a K&N filter isn't going to have any negative effects (I installed the FIPK on my "97 5.4), but it appears to me that the stock system would not be improved (other than appearance) by a replacement, i.e. the stock tube is of adequate diameter and a straight shot to tje engine. And don't forget the expansion chambers.
