Apparently it's very complicated.

There was a really long thread in this forum about how trucks are scheduled for building which is a good read. I was told by somebody here that you can expect a VIN number around 3 weeks after you order the truck. Some options I've heard will delay your truck including: two-tone paint, super crew cab, LT tires, and chrome tubular running boards. If you read the scheduling thread, you can see how having one or (god forbid) more of these options ordered can really delay your truck. I think I remember seeing people here that got their truck in right around 4 weeks. The sales manager I ordered from said 4-6 weeks. I was told by a salesman at a different dealer 8-12 weeks.

So I guess the answer is, you'll get your truck when it's ready. I'm right there with you man, ordered mine on 10/10!

Hi, I talked to the Ford Customer Service and they told me to expct 10-12 weeks. My order for FX4 has been passed 8 weeks since August and they still has not assigned a VIN # yet. The dealer says it is only a running board that held my order to go through and he does not know anything else. And yes, I will get my truck when it's ready but sometimes it's frustrating when you hear other guys who ordered the same options getting the truck or the VIN # at least before you, thr truck that is being builed at the same factory.

The Ford said today that my orders was recieved at the factory and it is within schedule of 12 weeks so I can not complain, but I am thinking now that it may go beyond 12 weeks if I don't have a VIN yet.....

You might get you truck right around Christmas time, huh?? Merry Christmas!!

I was NOT one of the first people here to order, but I believe I was the first to recieve my truck. I never recieved a VIN until the day it came in at my dealer. I had an order date, a build date 8 weeks later, and the truck arrived ant the end of the build week. It's not the end of the world if you don't have a VIN.

Here's what I got.

Ordered on 10/15 and was told by my dealership that my build date was to be 11/10 and delivery date to be 11/25. How could they know this so fast? Magic?! Who knows......

Then, I recieved a fax from my salesman yesterday that is titled -
"Single Vehicle Detail Information"

It's dated 10/20 and it has some (but not much) info about the trucks details, such as year, body style, etc.

Then it says:

First Two VIN: 1F Last Eight VIN: 4NA81706

Where's the middle seven?! How can you get some #s, but not all?
It does have the date of 11/10 (my alleged build date) on it but doesn't actually say "build date" anywhere.

I've got half a VIN!!!!!!

Ordered mine on 8/21. Still no Vin# or build date. The last time I spoke to the salesman on 10/13 it was unscheduled/clean.

Screw FX4 Silvermetallic/Dark Shadow Gray
5.4 L
Medium Flint Sport Cloth Bench Seat
3.73 Ltd Slip
LT 275 OWL A-T
18" Mach Alum
Power Moonroof
Trailer Tow PKG
AM/FM/6-CD
Two-tone

Orignally ordered the Bright Tubulars Bars but seen them on another Screw on the lot and I did not like them. Having dealer install crome side step bars as listed in the 2004 brochure under accessories.

Hopefully will have before X-mas?????

God no not 12 weeks!

Sounds like a lot of it has to do with not just what you ordered, but how your dealer handled your order. Based on this thread, the savvy of your dealer can make a big difference in when you get your truck. I checked today and the sales manager gave my truck priority 10 which is "very low" (a good thing) and I didn't order any of the limited availability options so I should be in as good a spot as I can be to get the truck soon!

sometimes it's frustrating when you hear other guys who ordered the same options getting the truck or the VIN # at least before you, thr truck that is being builed at the same factory.
That really sucks, I feel for you. It may have something to do with the priority the dealer assigned to your order. If he shafted you on the priority, and his dealership has a low allotment of trucks, you could end up waiting a while.
