Wrong wheels, tires and rearend

I have been reading this website for about 3 months but never had a reason to post anything 'till now. I know many of you can help me with this problem. I just received my red FX4 from the dealer and it has 17" tires and wheels and a 3.55 ratio rear end. I ordered 18" and 3.73. I intend to make them change everything to what I ordered. What problems will I be getting into if I do this? I know the speedo will have to be recalibrated but what about the rearend. Is this change going to affect something that I'm overlooking? Thanks for any help!!

Bummer

I'm not a technician, but you would probalby get great gas mileage if you just put the 18"'s on. With my test drives though I don't think you want to sacrifice the low end torque. Too bad they messed up. Hope it works out for you.

I would tell them that this is not the truck that I ordered and say you said my truck is here so where is it. I think they should let you keep the one they gave you until yours comes in.

It shouldnt be a big deal at all. Just like putting different gears in a sports car. I changed the rear in my mustang from 3:23 to 3:73 and just had to buy a chip to calibrate the speedo. I would absolutely make the dealer change your rear along with the rims and tires.

I'd make them change it, there is a gear in the rear end for the speedo calibration that will have be changed out. I'd be so mad if they had to change the gears, especially if it was brand new. I would definitely raise some serious hell with them, just my 2¢.

I know your mad as hell right now, but a little hint...I wouldnt go into the dealership like a raving maniac. I would try to keep my cool and just explain to them its not what you ordered and they need to make it right. If you dont want them to change the gears, then have them order an entire rear and have them swap it out. Im in the service business and I know that if you go in screaming and yelling, you may get what you want now, but will be put at the bottom of the list next time..again just my opinion, but you should deff. get what you payed for.

From a legal standpoint, don't take delivery of the truck. If you already did, you should certainly take BREWDUDE's advice, because if you took delivery they dont have to do anything. I am sure you can work it all out though, but I would be a bit weary about having the dealer swap rear ends on a brand new truck. Have them get you a new one

Not only should they change the stuff out, they should offer to throw some aftermarket goodies your way to make amends. Like a cover, bars, or something of the sort. They surely understand you can refuse to take delivery of the truck and have them order another.......they should be very nice to you right now.

I say to hell with changing it. I'd make them order you a new truck and throw in some extra stuff for your trouble.

FYI

I'm assuming if an FX4 that it's 4x4. In this case you/they have to change gears in both differentials.

Legally they can't alter the vehicle from the way it was built.

I would check the window sticker and see if it lists the options you ordered.
If it does, then you have a misbuilt unit. In that scenario they would have to correct it.

The person ordering you truck may have left those items off.

Another option the dealer has, is to refund you some money for the price difference.

sly is right u have to change the gears on bolth differentials that would be a big job i would make them order u a new one even if that meant a 10 week wait. And tell them to shave some more off the cost even if its ordered at invoice. Atleast thats what i would do ure spending 30 thousand plus im sure might as well get it from the factory built right.

This site/message board is awesome,, but sometimes it scares the h*ll out of me. My order is going on three weeks and in the back of my mind I've been thinking,, "what if I wait 10 weeks to get my truck and it comes in WRONG?"

I better find some time and make my salesman follow through on sending me my DORA that he was going to send but never did. I think that will show me how it was ordered and at least put my mind at ease,,, maybe.

I would refuse delivery as well. I doubt they will alter the truck for you. It is much cheaper for them to sell that one to someone else and order a new one for you. You should have a copy of the order sheet with the exact options/configuration you wanted. Show it to them and they compare to the sticker sheet. Bummer as this probably means you are waiting another 8-10 weeks.
