When I bought my truck the center console was leather......it had 2 small pinholes in it, so they ordered me a new one. When I picked it up from getting the motor switched, they had the hard rubber one in. I told them it came with leather, so I want leather.

Did anyone else here get a leather one with their FX4? My buddy has a FX4 and it came with the hard plastic/rubber.

 

My lariat has the hard rubber/plastic stuff. I want leather too!

When you say hard rubber/plastic, is it the same material that's used on the armrest of the inside of the door? If so, that's not good...

The center console in my Lariat Screw is leather.

 

the top of the center console in my Lariat is leather. the sides are plastic, i think (looks like fake leather to me). And the area around the shifter is all plastic.

I think I got a Lariat console top when I bought it by mistake......but they are ordering me a leather one since that is what it had when I purchased it.

 

The way I understand it:

Lariat's get the leather console top- they also get the leather insert on the instrument panel above the gauges. (Or at least it is supposed to look like leather, with stitching)

FX4's get the vinyl/rubber console top and IP insert.

The marketing theory is that FX4 owner's will take more abuse, therefore it has more stuff that is easier to keep clean and less likely to scratch/chip- plastic wheel lip moldings, rubber floor mats, etc.

The most off-roading I did with my 97 O/R was hitting all of the potholes in Detroit.

 

Must of been a mess up at the factory for mine.....guess it looks like I get a free one.

More than likely a mess up at the supplier. I'm pretty sure the entire console comes in preassembled- it justs drop in. The guys and gals on the line install color coded stuff based on bar codes. The top may have even been wrapped in plastic so it wouldn't have been caught until it got to dealer prep, or if the vehicle got personally evalutated at the plant.

Anyhow you got a lucky mis-match.

Yeah...sounds like our trucks may have been next to each other on the line... and got the swicheroo!

 

My console and the area above the gauges has stitching so maybe it is leather. It sure doesn't feel like leather to me. Other than the feel, can I look at it and tell which one I have? Thanks guys.
