The Factory Took My Truck For A Spin

I was digging through the glove box and I found a little slip of paper that says:

To the owner:

This new vehicle was selected at random for road testing following assembly. The odometer reading includes 32 (filled in by hand) miles registered during this evaluation.

We hope you will enjoy driving your new Ford Motor Company vehicle for many safe and pleasant miles.

Vehicle Operations
Ford Motor Company

Cool. Anyone else get this? I mean, I'm not sure what they could find out in 32 miles, but I guess it is cool. Mine was not a special order though, and I know a lot of peeps around here got theirs special order.

Thanks for taking it for a spin Ford, now give me the damn keys and get the hell out of my truck.

I did wonder if it was just a coincidence !

We have a comedian in the UK who uses the "Peeps" expression.

I didn't imagine the show had made it to the States (A bit too peculiarly British)....but I have never come across anyone except me who used that expession on this side of the Atlantic !!!

hay BrewMaster are you sure that your dealer didn't drive your truck for a day and give some test drives with it before calling you to let you know it was in. sometimes dealers have been known to drive rigs off there lots home as a personal transportation for a day or too. they could have made that paper up and put it in your glove box to cover themselves for the odometer reading. I guess there would be no way to know if this happened or not. it might be a good idea to ask some of the guy's here who work for ford if if they do pick rigs at random for test drives. I have never heard of this before. I myself would suspect the dealer.

2 things:

1)mine was not a special order. when i test drove it, it had 39 miles on it. i'm sure plenty of people test drove it.

2) this was an official ford sticker still with backing paper on it. it was not something printed up on a PC.

Hey brewmaster, that is just part of the audit and QC process.
On these new body trucks I would like to see more of these drives until they get the bugs worked out.....

I had that too.....it was right on the Drivers side window. They put 69 miles on mine. Guess they didn't have any clue that is would need a new motor 1800 miles later.

A lot of vehicles get "random" test drives. Only thing I've noticed is I never get in an XL thats been test driven, and usually the top of the line stuff has. Even in other lines the fancy vehicles are usually the ones with miles. I guess if I had that job those are the ones I'd pick also!

I had that in my '98.

Its not necessarily a "road test" like you would think.

I have to drive past Ontario Truck plant to get home. So I get to see what really happens.

Plant managers take the brand new trucks home everynight.

So that road test is more like a manager using the truck as personal transportation... only they can't tell you that is the reason why there is an extra 32 kms on the truck.

it's fine with me. i mean, they got to make sure my truck didn't have the vibrating that some people are complaining about on take off. of course, i test drove it anyway. i appreciate QC. and if he took my truck home for an evening, more power to him. i mean, if i was a plant manager, i'd do the same thing. it's a great truck, i understand why they can't resist driving it. i can't resist it either...

They do that from the Factory. My dad's Sport track had the same thing, around 30 miles. We were at the dealership when they pulled it off the truck, and know that no one drove the truck pryer to us.
