Official Bigger Tire thread.

Lets use this thread for any links or pics of the '04 with larger tires, rims, or lifts. This is one of the first things I want to do to my truck. If you can list what you have and the price.

I'm sure there my not be many posts on this right away, but I will bump it occassionally. Please feel free too as well.

FX4 Screw w/BFG 285/70R17's.. I got the tires on and they're working Great! No rub issues at all. Diameter is 32.7 or so.. BFG Radial All Terrain KO's mounted to the stock 17" wheels. I got them for 220 a piece, mounted, balanced, blah blah blah, and they gave me $70 a each for the stock Generals.

Looks good!!

I'd like to go with the same tire with a little larger diameter and rim....I'll probably end up getting new rims as well.

Sorry bestboy, no links or pics yet...but i did go to a local 4x4 specialty shop today to get some info on lifty my truck. I want 35's and a suspension lift. They said I would probably need a 6" lift (runs about $2000 installed) and new wheels because the stock ones have an offset similar to a car and not a truck. I was hoping this wouldn't cost me 3 1/2 thousand dollars. We'll just wait and see.

Hay bigsherm77 I think that that shop is out to get your money. you might need new rims but I am sure you don't need a 6 inch lift. the daystar 2.5 inch front lift claims to allow up to 35 inch tires. I believe this because the stock wheels on the 18 inch rims are supposed to be close to 32" in diameter and it has some room to spare with those tires and no lift. ad the 2.5 ich lift and I am sure it will be close for the 35's but if you did need more than the 2.5" it wouldn't be much. in the rear there is plenty of room for bigger tires I have seen that there is lots of room in the rear for bigger tires. I bet you could put 36 inch tires on the rear with out haveing to lift it. of coarce it would also depend on how wide those tires are. width might be a problem. I will be able to know better on friday or early next week when my truck get here.

I like the 285/70 17's. My local Discount Tire said that I should be able to get 325/60 18's on my FX4, I am worried about the tire being too wide and rubbing. Anyone have any suggestions.

I'd think those would be too wide.. I guess if he thinks he could put them on and they don't fit it would be his fault. I'd get the lift before I put tires on that big anyway just to make things look right. Probably Daystar.

Do you think I can get the 325/60 18's on without rubbing if I go with the 2.5 in. Daystar lift?

Bigsherm, 6" lift for 35 is way overkill and might actually look oddly proportioned. As said, the OEM 18" tires are about 32" and there is room for at least an inch taller/wider on the stock rims/suspension. 2-3" lift is the most you would need to fit 35" tires.

I did the same add on myself but my pics arent as nice
https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=3167

I paid 186 a pop at discount tire for 5 tires which included eveything except tax. The new spare tire also fits up under the bed in the spare tire well. It looks like 305's may have been possible but didn't really want anything bigger then the 285/70/R17's.

When I was talking with discount tire they said they would try and mount the 305's if I wanted but I had no desire. So you can tell them to put them on the front and if they rub just pull them righ off.

I'm also selling the stock tires with about 100 miles on them if anyone is interested.

Hey, Cool! It looks good. I seriously don't think it would look right if you put anything bigger on without a lift or something. JMO. I'm pissed that you got them cheaper though. I just kept the stock spare. The tires you're selling are 16 inch? Did you get new wheels or something?

My mistake on the add the title should have read R17 not R16. I went ahead and changed it the tires are 17's not 16's.
