Getting 16 mpg on 5.4L 3v

I have 1400 miles on my new 2004 xlt 4x4 and I have been getting 16 on average and I am pretty heavy with the foot, is that good. Can you get a k and n filter for this yet. And anybody getting a super cab you have to get the power sliding rear window its the newest thing since sliced bread I use it all the time. The truck has a grey interior but the passenger a-pillar is black the dealer said they would change it for free should I get a new one or should I keep it for something differnt that no one else has? The only other thing i have noticed is the exuast smells alot like burt matches (sulfer). otherwisw I love this truck its awsome. Sorry Dodge and Chevy show no mercy ford

What rear end/tires?

What rear end and what size tires are you using? Gas mileage is pretty important to me since I put about 40K miles/year. Thanks.

I got 16 but it was on my first tank (300 miles). This was mostly highway driving. I have the 5.4, 17" tires and 3.73 LS axle.

I've had mine for 3 full days and my MPG is about 13.8, at the moment. I'm really hoping this will increase in the break in process. I have about 200 miles on it and plan to take it to about 300-400 before I start driving the hell out of it and kickin' it in the ***. Dealer said it would provide a better break-in and I should see my MPG increase a good deal.

3.73 LS, 18" tires.

i am getting about 15mpg, mostly freeway driving. i got the 3.73LSD on stock Goodyear tires (LT275's). i have abut 550 miles on it.

to answer your question '80ModelYear, no significant mods will be available until the new year at the soonest. that includes intakes and everything else that might help the gas mileage.

and yes, the power sliding rear is cool. the smell will go away. mine had that smell but it has been getting more subtle every day.

Well I have the 3.73LS and the 18" rim with the goodyears. On the highway I got 17.22 MPG the first 300 miles. In the city and now getting on it a little more at around 550 miles on it now I got just over 14 MPG. So I am pretty happy thus far.

Mileage does seem to improve as the truck gets broken in. At 1,642 miles this tankfull was 18.2 overall in city driving.

4x2 Lariat 5.4L, 3.55 Axle Ratio

BrewMaster,

Awesome truck one of the nicest one's I've seen so far. Although I must admit I am a bit biased. I have a 00 Black Lariat, ORP ext cab etc... I just hope that yours is not a magnet for idiots in parking lots like mine is. i.e doors dings, scratches etc.

I have the 3.73 LS and am getting 11.4. I run my a/c and drive mainly in city and some highway. Is anyone else running their air and getting the good mileage like 14 and 16? We are still hitting the 100 degree mark so a/c is a must.
Although, Temp guage is having the same problem as some of the others are, I guess this would affect the mileage too....?

pepatrick,

do you think it could be the PCM reprogram? Were you having trouble with the temp gauge? can't recall if you did or not.
