Trailer Tow Package
Trailer Tow Package
So I like this option, especially auxiliary tansmission cooling and an upgraded radiator, but does it make that much difference if I will rarely tow anything? this truck will be mostly for driving around town and taking off road. i have no need to tow. I am thinking of getting it for the extra cooling options, but is there a down side to getting this package? Plus, it is only about 300 bucks, that seems cheap. thoughts?
FYI, Trailer Tow Package is:
7 wire tailer harness
Class IV trailer hitch receiver
Heavy Duty 72 Amp battery
Upgraded Radiator <---whatever that means...
Auxiliary Transmission cooling

To me a truck is not a truck unless it can pull something. I am ordering the tow package because I do tow a boat, but only a few times a year. Even if I did not have something regular to tow I would get the tow package, I think this option completes the truck. I had a friend in the past get an SUV without any added towing options and a smaller motor. He used it to pull a small camping tralier which was fine. Within a year he wanted a bigger trailer and he then had to get a bigger SUV to pull it.. that was expensive..
My vote is to get the tow package.
As for the upgraded raditor I am sure it is just a bigger radiator to allow more cooling...

If you never tow anything, the upgrades are not likely to benefit you. But I would get it anyway. You never know when you may want to pull and that is a fair price for the equipment. You could use a bumper ball, but that limits you to the height to the tounge. Whenever I see a trailer on the road being towed at an angle, I notice it is being pulled my the bumper.
Here's what you get for the money even if you never tow anything.
Upgraded Radiator -- Cooler running engine. Especially if you are in stop and go intown traffic or high speed interstate runs.
BTW, Upgraded radiator actually is a thinner (crossection) radiator. The heat transfer between the coolant and the outside air is better therefore, it is more efficient.
Transmission cooler -- Cooler runnign transmission. This will again benefit the stop and go traffic driver's because the transmission fluid does heat up since it is being run through the torque converter. You will also get a cooler transmisison on high speed runs.
In summary, there worth the money and they don't hurt the wear and tear on your vehicle. And, when you or the next owner of the vehicle does haul they really do help.

at about $300 I would not even blink an eye. You can't predict what you might or might not be hauling 5 years from now. As a quick comparison, call a local hitch shop and ask them about getting a hitch installed with wiring harness and a trans cooler.

I was under the impression that the Trailer Tow Package included the Class IV hitch with all those other goodies while without this package, the truck came standard with a Class III hitch. However, I am now picking up that I am mistaking and its either the Class IV or nothing. This is what I get for listening to a dealer. :o Am I correct now?
It's a great upgrade, especially if you ARE offroading. Better cooling while chugging around off road. Tranny's tend to get pretty hot while in 4 wheel drive also so the Tranny cooler is a nice option. Plus a lot of winch systems now are using a receiver hitch system on the front and rear so you can winch from whichever end you need to. Not to mention all the other acessories that use the receiver hitch. Bike Rack, fishing pole racks, cargo platforms, etc. Get the hitch!
