yes, another "I saw one" report
Saw an 04 today at the dealer! I went in for an oil change for my '03, and while I was waiting, I went out to check it out. Of course a very polite young lady came on out to close the sale... when I told her I just bought an '03, she didn't care, she was very enthusiastic about talking about the new truck. She was well trained and knew all the features.
It was a silver FX4 supercab with leather and the console shifter. $36,400 sticker.
The back seat is finally big enough for people to be comfortable back there. I think it is the first supercab of any breed I have seen that I would say has a real back seat. The driver's seat is very carlike with the center console... think I prefer a bench seat. The leather was nice and the interior looked good, much better materials than my XL. The tailgate assist really works, even though I have never struggled closing a tailgate, I have to say I liked it. And even though it was a 6.5' box, it looked really big because of the additional depth.
The frame was awesome. You could see how strong it was. Just a lot more metal everywhere - looked incredibly tough. Also it is painted black, unlike the previous wax coating which allowed surface rust to rapidly set in. A beautiful frame! However, the mounting points of the front lower A-arms looke a little lower than the '03's, maybe a little less clearance. the front suspension just looked a little more vulnerable to rocks... but no big deal.
I really liked it... gonna get me one in a few years... but I will keep my '03!
