XCR440SP.... Can you address this?

Saw your thread about "How it works." Great info...

Have a question for you as my dealer seems informationally challenged at the moment.

Once an order has been placed and confirmed by the dealer (I assume they'll have an order number at this time), how soon should I expect information before it is "scheduled" or an update is made (like a material or commodity hold)?

I am trying to figure out what kind of timeline I should have from order entry to scheduled build date. Salesman is saying a month may go by before ANY info is available and that REALLY doesn't sound right.

Just FYI in case you have any insight into this... I've ordered a 4x4 Lariat, Medium Wedgewood Blue with two tone paint with just about EVERY option save running boards (moonroof inplace of rail system), 3.73 Limited Slip, etc...

Can you provide any insight?

Thanks in advance!

You could be waiting from the 2-tone alone. Browse through some threads and you'll get an idea of the wait. Could be anywhere from 5 weeks to a few months...

I am guessing that a month is about right. I'm no dealer, just speaking from my own intelligence. I ordered mine on 9/4 and I'm not expecting any scheduled build date information until about 1st or 2nd week of October. From the looks of this forum, there is still a backlog of trucks to be built that were ordered between April and August

My original order was placed June 27th. It was scheduled by August 28th. But you figure they didn't start building until mid-July. So really I only waited a month and a half in the beginning for a schedule date plus they had all those other ones to schedule. Looks like they are moving along now and the backlog should be clearing out.

Supposedly they build more per day as they move on. I am guessing, hoping, praying that I'll have mine by the beginning of November. Which is fine with me becuase I have a lot of punk kids in my neighborhood and no garage. So it'll be safer at the plant or on the way around Halloween. Not that I've had problems before, but I scared the hell out of a few of 'em last year by dressing up as Michael Myers and approaching them from the dark side of my house when they came to the door. I'm hoping they don't have retalliation in mind.

It will vary from dealer to dealer on order times. If there are other orders ahead of yours with the same comodity at that same dealer you'll have to wait longer until they get filled, if your the only one, it will happen quicker. However, there is no set time, thats probably why your dealer can't say.

Am I the only one that thinks that maybe ford should think about revamping their ordering system (process) for retail customers?...I mean honestly ....I have seen options that are commodities on stock/invetory trucks, while I get penalized for having the same options on an ORDERED vehicle.....whats wrong with this picture?

04 Lariat SCrew Oxford/AZ Biege two tone, black leather, 18in tires, Running boards (to be swapped later, didn't want to wait for the chrome!...now i've waited anyway!! how ironic!), and every other option they offered except rails, ordered moonroof instead. Ordered 5-13-03, VIN received 09-05-03....no other info available yet...no build date, etc etc etc.

Since you've received your VIN, I would say build would shortly follow... maybe a week or two. Then it's on to inspection and release. Probably about 2 weeks after build for delivery, so I'll guess you'll have it around the end of SEPT or beginning of OCT (based on my vehicle info and others on this site).

I ordered my monotone Lariat SCrew (White) on 25-Aug-2003, got my build date of 15-Sep-2003 on 6-Sep-2003! I can tell by other threads that I'm verrrry lucky. I avoided ordering the chrome tubulars and didn't want a moonroof or Arizona Beige. My dealer says to expect delivery the first week of October.

I managed to get it for $200 over invoice. I know others have done better but I wanted the truck and I'm satisfied.

FWIW, I contacted 6 dealers,

2 wanted MSRP
3 wanted invoice +$1000
1 said $200 over with no add-ons.

Thanks to everyone on this website for helping me be more informed than ALL the dealers I went to.

OK... This is kind of the info I am wanting. Typically, how long from the day your order enters the Ford system till a VIN is assigned? It's my understanding as well that once the VIN is assigned, build is usually just 2-3 away...

Its usually a few weeks from scheduled to produced, varies plant to plant and time to time, usually 2 weeks to a month.

I ordered mine on a Tuesday, first week of August. He said he submitted them on Wednesdays. I had my VIN number and build date the following week (Sept 14th or so). Still waiting for the truck though. FX-4 Screw....

I went to my dealer on 5/13/03 and told them what I wanted Black FX4 Screw with everything but moonroof & leather. They placed my order in when the prices came out which was sometime in july. I was given a build date on 8/11/03 of 9/1/03 was told on 9/6/03 that my truck was now bucked which I'm praying is a good thing. Dealer said I should have my truck by the end of the month. I hope they are right I've been without a vehicle since 5/12/03!!! (driving girlfriends camry & riding the bus ) I told my dealer they owe me for being this loyal to FORD!!!!

Actually Retails do take priority, but one factor in what your seeing now is that to start production there are no commoditys. It s after dealers order all two-tone or all of an option that the backlog begins creating comodites. You'll see few stock two tone paint trucks on the lots once the initial batch is gone, but for our first trucks we could order anything we wanted. Now I don't even try to get a two tone for stock, but my early trucks I ordered with two tone.

WHEN??

XCR440SP, can you check this VIN for me?

1FTPW14524KA74409

It is a loaded FX4 SCrew.
Order placed 5/22. My dealer has been out of town getting ready for Isabel so no contact in the last few days. If you can help I would appreciate it. My present vehicle is to be sold on 10/3 and I'm getting a little nervous. Thanks in advance..
