Test drive etc..

Ok, I went to my dealer and took a test drive yesterday. This truck was also a 4X4 XLT Scab, but with a dark grey finish.

Very quiet and comfortable, and extremely well mannered. The XLT interior is a bit more "plain" than the FX4 and Lariats I've seen posted here, but still ok for my purposes.

We crunched some numbers and came up with:

XLT Scab 4X2
145" Wheelbase
5.4 (of course)
Limited slip
Tow package
Rear defroster
Fog lamps
Deluxe Mirror package
17" Polished Rims
35.7 gal tank
Rev sensing system
power drivers seat

(I just went with the dual media system)

This all came out to 27,061.80
(29,714. If I added 4X4)

How does this sound for a CA vehicle price?

Go price it out at edmunds.com

When you've priced it out you will get an MSRP and INVOICE price.

You should be able to purchase the vehicle for +/- $200 of Invoice.
Around $200 over INVOICE has been typical.

My only recomendation is to get a power rear slider over the rear defrost, especially in CA. Due to the vertical rear window, it hardly gets dew or frost. Sometimes, but rarely. I use my rear slider almost every time I drive the truck.

Are those prices invoice or MSRP?

What are you using the power slider for? (if you don't mind my asking)

Aiflow, ventilation. It allows a fair amount of air to cirulate inside the cabin with little noise. I had a manual slider on my 99 and now a power slider on my 03. The amount of air really changes on how much it is open on the freeway. Cracking a window makes a lot more noise for similar airflow/cooling. Other option is to turn the A/C on, but that takes slightly more gas and I don't prefer that dry air unless I cannot stand the heat. And when my wife is not in the truck, I open all the windows, moonroof, and rear slider to get a lot of air moving inside.

I figure in CA morning and eveings would be perfect cruising weather to open get a little air inside.

Also, I use the rear window for long cargo. I have picked up 16 foot lumber (trim or 2x4's) or siding material (mostly 10-12.5') and carried it through there.

Just my experiences with truck ownership for 4.5 years. Not everyone has the same uses, though.

That would be nice for spring and fall. We've been having triple digit temps in my area, and it's still bloody warm until about 01:00. I can see why you went with the power slider with a Scab...too far to reach back.

For some reason, Edmunds doesn't have the combo of: XLT Scab, 4X2, 6.5 bed and 5.4 engine. Odd.

Same story there. They don't show ANY '04 XLTs with the 5.4
It's like they think only the FX4 and Lariat get the 5.4.

I think the reason you dont see any XLTs with the 5.4 is because it is an option and the 4.6 is standard. Try building one with the body you want and the 5.4 should be an option for you to pick. Hope this helps.

There you go. The 5.4L is a stand alone option (like Tow package, fog lamps, etc) on the XLT. Once you get past choosing the XLT with 4.6L, it will come up.
