Fuel economy

I keep reading articles about " increased Fuel efficiency" Has anyone found any hard data on the new 5.4L? Maybe some of you that have actually been in one at a dealer can recall what the window sticker said.

From the window stickers I have seen on the forddirect.com site, the fuel economy for a 2004 4x2 5.4 SuperCab is 15 city, 19 highway. The numbers for a similar 2003 are 14 and 19.

Unhappy

I drove a '04 4X4 Super Crew FX4 and it was listed at 14 and 18. That's the same as the 2000 that I have now!

When I ordered my truck last week the salesman had a sheet listing the MPG. For the 4x2 with a 4.6L it was 15/19, for the 4x2 with the 5.4L it was same, 15/19.

The increase in fuel efficiency is there because the new trucks are heavier and more powerful, but at least get the same mileage as the previous model. It wasn't a very big increase in efficiency.

Seems like marketing to me

When we look at "increased fuel econlmy" we expect to see the numers go up. I am a big FORD fan but they seem to be missleading most people. The common consumer will likley say "I do not care if the truck is heavier and therefor the engine is more efficient. I want 21 MPG from my truck. "

21 was just an example not what I expect from a truck

I could have used anything as an example. 14-18 is the same is what I am getting at. It is not increased it in the consumers eye.

20+ mpg would be great, but just so long as gas doesn't go up to $2 or more a gallon it won't worry me too much.

I just read on a nother thread that HP went up from 260 to 300 and with their calculation that considers the added weight and a few other variables, it's 7%-8% more efficient on fuel.

If you read between the lines, they never said improved Fuel Mileage per gallon.

Who buys this kind of vehicle for mileage anyway? The 4.6 is always an option if that's your priority.

Gas miliage shouldn't be your biggest concern with a truck. They are hard on gas! (especially if you have a heavy right foot). But there are ways to get a bit better milage. Buy the Air Raid air intake and put on better exhaust, worked for me. That may get you about 2-3 mpg more than what your getting now.
