2004 FX4 Super Crew @ dealership

I was told earlier this evening that a dealeship in Indianapolis, Indiana has a FX4 Super Crew on their showroom. My friend who told me this works for Ford where they make the rack and pinion steering systems. Evidently the truck is not for sale as Ford has said they cannot sell them yet!!!!!

Sounds like I am going for a roadtrip tomorrow.

Oh wait, it's a 1:18 scale model.

No one in Louisville has anything... however; according to Bill Collins Ford, they're selling them at a rate of around 5 per day on order.

Thanks for the info, RockPick.

I want to order mine really bad, but I'm torn. I love a lot about the FX4... the interior, the suspension, the sporty feel. But I'm worried about the grill. I'm not sure I like it. It looks great on the yellow FX4, but I want a black one and I just don't know how it's going to look in person. Also ain't too crazy about the grey fender flares either. I know I like the look of the Larait, but I'd have to give up the FX4 Suspension. I priced both and the Lariat is only $372 more than the FX4.

Any advice?

I'm going with the FX4 as I dislike the Lariats wood grain interior more than I dislike the FX4 grey fender flares...
Plus:
- The 18" FX4 wheels look better than the Lariat's
- The FX4 is cheaper.

But:
- The Lariat has the better message center
- The Lariat has heated seats
- In all Black I think the Lariat would look better

Clear as Mud?

Why do people think the FX4 suspension is all that? It is the same as every other 4WD except the shocks (which IMHO suck). Even if the shocks were something special, they wear out very quicky.

With the '04+ model, the FX4 is now a complete trim level designed for outdoor enthusiats, but the suspension is stil lthe same as other models. The design and springs are the same.

Then the Shocks make all the difference. My dad has a 2003 Lariat. Great truck, rides smooth. My uncle has a 2003 FX4/Lariat. It's a world of difference to me. The FX4 handles a lot better. My dad even agrees and wishes he'd gotten and FX4...but at the same time, he loves his Lariat. Plus, the FX4 sits about an inch higher than the Lariat... I'm interested in putting wider wheels on my truck and I'll need all the extra height I can get.

Have you driven both? I'm just curious because I can tell a big difference.

I had a 99 Lariat with ORP. It rode pretty well, especiallu with a little weight in the bed. When I replaced the shocks with aftermarket ones, it was better than when it was new.

I have an 03 Lariat with FX4 that rides like crap compared to both the OEM and aftermarket shocks on my 99. With the extra weight of the Screw, I'd expect a better ride. I cannot wait until I replace these shocks.

There is not a difference in ride height beteeen an FX4 and any other 4x4 with 17" tires. Maybe someone's torsion bar is cranked a little. The springs and torsion bar affect ride height, not shocks.

All I am saying is that you can get a dramatically different feel by changing the shocks. Very evident by adjusting some RS9000's. Put some decent aftermarket shocks on a new F-150 Lariat and you can have the stiff ride with the rest of the Lariat goodies.

Shocks make a big difference in the ride, in fact for the best ride don't get the FX4 and put some RS9000x shocks on right away. For an even better ride, get rid of the Goodyear tires and put some Michelins on like they do on the Blackwoods.

Funny thing about hight. My dad was over with his 03 Scab FX4 and parked next to my 01 Screw 4X4. He noticed that my truck was higher so we got out the tape. It turned out that mine was about 1" higher in the back. We didn't check the front.

Spring sag maybe? Nothing to adjust in the rear like the torsion bar in the front.
