My dealer has prices
Alternatives to X-PLAN
As my pal "bigsherm" posted elsewhere and others discussed elsewhere X-Plan was once much better than the invoice but Ford change the plan recently and it is no only a little better than the dealer invoice price.
If you belong to a credit union they are likely to belong to a buying service that can get most vehicles for $100 over the dealer's invoice price. This will usually be limited to a single dealer in an area but he has no choice if you go through the buying service.
I found a dealer who was willing when I contacted them to match the buying service deal even though they were not the official buying service dealer. As "bigsherm" found out a little later they ("my dealer") would no longer match the buying service price on the '04 F-150 (realized the profit potential perhaps?)
He was able to get the X-Plan and so saved a bit more than I did (darn!
)
So try the Credit Unions (worth joining if you don't belong). Try the warehouse clubs, find someone who works for Ford or supplies Ford or buys a lot of Ford vehicles, or wait 6 to 9 months!
Good luck!

X-plan and such
Well, I work for a company that offers X-Plan on Fords and the GMSupplierDiscount on GMs.
Here's my experience: I stopped into a dealer to see about buying an F150 last week. Where normally I would be on the defensive all the way through discussions with the salesman and constantly feel like I'm under the thumb of the Jolly Green Giant, this was exactly the opposite. The difference, ladies and genitals, is the X-Plan.
See, every vehicle on the lot has a sheet inside the dealership with the pertinate info on it. On the top is the base vehicle MSRP and another column of prices (which I assume is dealer cost). All the options and packages are listed and the prices are tallied. On the bottom of the page is a bunch of boxed in prices. Two of which are Invoice Total and also the A, D, & X-Plan prices. In the example of the truck I was checking out, the total MSRP is 32,100. The Invoice is 28,541 and the X-Plan is 28,418.
So basically, as soon as I mentioned X-Plan, the salesman knew there was no haggling. My price was almost 4,000 cheaper than where every other Joe would start to haggle over. This was very gratifying to me. Of course, that truck was an 03, so I would get another 3,000 off as an incentive (without the 0% financing).
Sorry it's so winded, but I figured I would tell you all about my experience with the X-Plan. On a side note, I'm not buying that truck - or any other 03. I'm waiting it out for the 04s. I'm psyched, too. The only thing is I'm really counting on the incentive. Looks good so far.

so there are the listed prices of the X plan and such right on the sticker on the window? hmmm. what if I dont have a friend (not sure if i do or not) that works for ford?? anyone here wanna be a pal and give me that pin for an 04??? he he he. Im sure there is a disclaimer that ford workers just cant go out and give everyone a number that gives them special pricing on new trucks.......? anyway, I REALLY want an 04. I have an 02 screw with low miles that I own, so trade in should be pretty good to move up to an FX4 screw? i also really appreciate the help so far and hopefully I can get some real life use out of this and get a good deal on an 04!!!

Ok, I HAVE to make use of this X plan. I have never bought a built to order truck (my father did with a 99 SuperDuty when they first came out), and like my father I want every option if Im going to order it. The X plan price for your lariat is well within my price range, just about what i want to spend, so an Fx4 with the leather captians chairs should be no sweat. Im also hoping they will give me around 18-20 g or my trade in. So anyone have ANY pointers on using this plan? Im almost 100% positive i have no family working for ford, and almost the same with friends. Help?

Well, you may be out of luck with the plan options if you have no friends or family who can get a PIN for ya.
Depending on who you work for, they may have a deal with Ford that allows you to use the X-Plan... the company I work for (a telecommunications company) has such a deal because we buy vehicles in bulk...
Anyhow, if nothing pans out for ya, you'll probably have to haggle with the dealer for the price you want. But, knowing some of these prices should help you, if that's what you need to do.
Also, Ford says that they'll offer incentives immediately upon release but we'll have to wait to find our for sure.

Hmmm
You won't find the A&D-Plan, or X-Plan prices on the sticker. All you get is the MSRP. Maybe the invoice, too, but I'm not sure about that.
01sport - Yeah, I remember someone else telling me that getting a good trade-in buck is next to impossible with the discounted plans. I'm lucky in the fact that I'm not trading anything in.
WhiteBlaze82 - I'm pretty sure that when my company told me about the X-Plan they said it was for employees and their immediate family in the same house. I'll ask HR tomorrow to see for sure. If we're okay to distribute the pin to friends then by all means I'll give it to you.

fiugzel,
Hey thanks! thats mighty nice of you. I also just realized something. I work for DHL, a shipping company much like Fed-Ex and UPS. Im just a courier (its a great college student's job), and I drive a Ford E350 van. So does everyone else. We have an entire fleet of Fords. Not trucks though, but ford is ford, right? Maybe my HR manager has an X plan pin? It might be right under my nose the whole time!! I'll check tommorow, first thing....ooh, its exciting....Also, thanks so much for the help guys. I have asked for tips and such before on this website, but never have gotten so much feedback before. The new 04 is meant to be

Wingn8ive: Why is your price for total vehicle and options higher than your grand total on the bottom? Am I reading it wrong?
Whiteblaze82: Your friends don't neccesarily have to work for Ford. They can work for one of Fords affiliates. I am getting an x plan pin from someone who works for Hertz. They are given a certain number of Pin numbers that they can give to anyone they want per year. If your company delivers things for ford, you might be considered an employee of a Ford affiliate and eligible for a different (and better) plan. Yeah, check with H.R. and if they don't know, try employee relations at corporate headquarters.

bigsherm77... aaah, I follow ya.. good catch. I didn't notice, but I cut and pasted this after transferring the figures from the dealer's order confirmation. Plus I was pricing other vehicles and options and apparently didn't change that.

All,
Definately check with your employeer I can get Xplan through work and my work (telecomm) has nothing to do with Ford... When I went into a dealership several months ago and the saleperson learned who I worked for he went from talking MSRP to invoice almost instantly... Also with the Xplan there is no processing fee ($200-300) like most dealers in VA like to charge...

looks like you need a code from your employee to get to the spot where you request your PIN...
