Internal Ford Video?
Internal Ford Video?
About a week ago I read a post (on one of the Ford F-150 message boards somewhere) about a internal Ford video that was sent to dealers that showed a new F-150 3v 5.4L taking on a new Ram, the 1st w/ a 5.9L and then aaother w/the HEMI. I was away all week and now I've been trying to follow up on this... Was I dreaming this 'cause I can't find it anywhere?
Any help!!!
Any help!!!
The Video is Labeled "2003 Spring Dealer meeting" it was sent to the dealers, but I don't know if all got it or just the Select dealers (small town dealers). It's pretty entertaing (at least the F-150 part).
The new F-150 races a Silverado empty, a Ram 5.9L and a Hemi while trailering, hooks bumpers to a Ram (and drags it backwards), goes through a rut that a toyota gets stuck in.
It also has some good footage of the trucks (all 4 brands) going through a slalom demonstrating how much better the F-150 does at keeping its tires level on the pavement.
One thing I found very interesting, the presentation is given by Rick Titus (formerly with Motor Trend) He said that when the new C4 Corvette (I think it was 1985 or 1986) came out, one of the major things that made it impressive was that it did the 100 foot slalom at 89 MPH and was much better than any compeitor. They tested the new F-150 (didn't say what cab or configuration) in the 100 Foot Slalom it did 96 MPH, pretty amazing change in recent years!

Thats what I like to see. Chain em together and see who pulls who. Thats how ya tell who has a tougher truck. Drop a couple a hundred on the bar and go out back. Never once saw a ricer win, umm... never once saw a ricer with the ba**s to try.
Does any one know if they had any wieght sled pulls?
XCR... This sounds like a cool video, but I have to question your 100 foot slalom speeds. In Motor Trend's June '03 issue some of the fastest production cars(and an SVT Lightning) were run through the 600 ft slalom(6 cones 100 feet apart). In the test the Mosler MT900 set a new MT record with a run of 74.7 MPH. They do tell you this is an average speed and that some of the cars actually reach speeds of 80 MPH, but 96 MPH for the F150 seems very high. The best slalom speed I could find for an F150 in MT was around 58 MPH for a Harley model...although I'm sure a Lightning should be in the mid 60's.

- F150 vs. Silverado empty (assuming we kick azz or would not have shown this!?, but how bad to we kick azz?)
- F150 vs. Ram 5.9 and HEMI with trailers... (Assuming we win again)
- F150 vs. Ram on bumper (you say we won!!! )
- F150 vs. Tunrda in a "battle of the rut", (we win!!!)
_F150 vs. all in handling demo. (we win!!!)
- I read somewhere the race vs. Ram w/HEMI was only till 60mph, any truth to that. (yes I know we hardly ever tow much faster than 60 / except when passing on 2 lane roads)

1. No sled pulls, and I don't put a lot of trust in hooking bumpers, it has more to do with tires than truck, I've seen things that I would never guess would have a chance beat some really amazing things, but it was entertaining to watch as they did it on pavement and there was some good smoke roll.
2. The races all were to lower speeds, I think they said 60 MPH. The Chevy got beat, the Ram 5.9L got destroyed, the HEMI was close but did get beat (it's nose was at the rear wheels of the F-150).
3. I listened again and he said C4 Vette 89 MPH, new F-150 96 MPH, he said it was a 700 foot slalom with 100 foot gates. They don't show this in the video, they just talk about it. They do show a lower speed slalom to show the lean and camber change in the other make trucks. I don't know how long the gates are, but I'm betting this is the normal 600 foot slalom, they were running at 45 MPH but this wasn't the limit, they had all the trucks going nose to tail so you cold see the difference in handling, they all looked like they could go faster.
