99 5.4 no start in the cold, but will start up with some heat
It's been getting cold where I am, 10 degrees or less. Ive been driving this truck for a few months now and on the first day it actually got cold truck would not start at all. Really goofy I could crank all day and it would pop off but never catch. I got a feeling it has something to do with the idle air control, and here's why.
The few months I've had the truck sometimes I would start the truck and it would high idle 1000 rpm or so for a little bit. I wasn't too worried about it because the truck was still starting good. Now that the temps have fallen I can't get the truck started at all once it gets cold, I have to put a turbo heater on it before I leave for work and park it inside.when I get home so I can leave in the AM. I don't park it in the heated garage, it's just slightly better than what the temp is outside. It'll start up fine. But my god if the truck sits outside it will not cooperate.
I've also noticed that if you try to start it when it's not completely cold yet it will fire good but only for a split second. The truck has the cat hacked off of it so she bellars and I can tell she's firing on all cylinders like it should, but it still dies anyways. I'm definitely looking at a air/fuel problem getting the bastard to start.
Does this sound like the IAC acting up? I'm hoping to get the truck plugged into a fancy dancy snap on scanner to see what parameters my sensors are reading and see what's goofin off. Until then I have to rely on the Internet. I also don't know enough about systems like this to know what I'm looking at either though lol.
