I too hope no one was injured? Now, the big decision, what to replace it with?

Hopefully no one was injured.

Glad you had a dash cam! No he-said she said junk.

That Volvo SUV hit you in the right place to flip your truck. The driver of that Volvo clearly didn't stop for the stop sign.

Some broken ribs and vertibrea but I would hate to know how bad it WOULD have been had I NOT BEEN IN MY TRUCK!

AH...what kind of replacement.....eaning toward a '18 5.0 l F-150 or a Tundra 5.7. but thats a few months away.

As someone who runs and bikes a lot, I've gotten hit by cars/trucks/city snow plows a few times. 100% it was due to negligence of distracted driving. Luckily the only injury so far has been a bruised arm from getting whaled by a mirror. Best of all, no one of those stopped to see how I was doing. Technically all hit and runs at that point.

Back many years ago, I was stopped waiting to make a left hand turn as a pickup truck "didn't see me" as they were making a left and ran my motorcycle over. I was smart enough to have good instinct and jump off of it, or else I'd be in a wheel chair. My legs would've gotten sheared off under the motorcycle getting pinned under the truck. It was all slow motion, but instinct kicked in. To this day I still have no idea how I did that so fast.

I love my 2018 5.0 minus a few quirky things. I'd probably recommend 19/2020 if you can swing a year newer.

Glad you made it out alright overall!

Finally able to get around without needing a shoulder to cry on.....I'm not jumping for joy or throwing ball to my boys yet ..but am around under my own power. lol

Thanks.

So this next truck..
Not sure if I'm ALL in on the 5.0 or the 3.5 turbo's. My '02 had the 5.4 with a tune (i liked the tow tune as the DD) exhaust, CAI, 4.56 gears and 35"s. It was NOT a sport truck...it was a get chit done truck! If i could hook to it i could pull it...with minimum high tech issues! (starter, alt, plastic intake...all consumable items that were dealt with via metric socket set) The turbo reviews i have been hearing are awesome...but I really do not believe turbo's are going to have a LONG trouble free life??? I would assume the turbo's would probable be about worn out before 200k then $$$$ And a turbo charged engine has a different host of daily driver issues associated with breathing.?

Am i correct in this assumption? They all have pro's n cons ...for me MAINTENANCE minimized with adequate power are my 2 check boxes in the mechanical area. Trim levels are preferance stuff and easy to find or swap but must have the correct BASE truck.

Did they change much MECHANICALLY from 18-->19/20? I have only noticed the body mods but could also be ecu management ideology changes. I have DRIVEN nothing other than my 06 Explorer (Cream Puff) since as things get sorted out.

Seems to me I've read that the 2017/18 5.0 engines might have an oil burning problem. I think the 3.5 Eco has evolved to a pretty reliable engine. It got 2 timing chains in 2017 I think instead of one very long one. Most engines nowadays have direct injection and if it doesn't also have port injection the intake valves will have to be cleaned sooner or later. The RAM still has port injection I think?

I briefly considered a 2.7 EcoBoost l, then a 3.5 once I found that the 2.7 was held back in towing ratings.

I'm going with a 19-20 F-150 SuperCrew 5.0 two-wheel drive with tow package and L9 3.55 e locker.

What I found was that all of these newer trucks have some form of an issue. All brands. Whether it's widespread or not it's hard to say because everyone comes online to complain. One thing I did observe, was I would rather deal with the potential oil burning issues, than dealing with vacuum pumps, timing chains, cam phasers and all of the issues that I still am seeing even on the next generation EcoBoost 3.5.

I think it's all about what you are comfortable dealing with if it arises. I have driven a 2.7 and it is impressive as hell. The 3.5 is a monster too. No hate from me.

From a reliability standpoint, the 2015-2017 F-150 5.0 is one of the most reliable trucks of recent years.

The 2.7 EcoBoost from 2018-2020 is also incredibly reliable. The first gen 2015 to 17, did have some oil pan leaks, and there was a bad batch of heads. Well documented if you do some digging.

Good luck and so sorry about your truck.

One thing I'll mention, is that the 4.6/5.4l engines will feel anemic compared to the newer engines and transmissions.

The only thing I'd be cautious about is the 10 speed transmission. I personally would get one with the 6 speed or buy new with a good warranty. I believe the 10 speed was in the 2017 3.5 EB and all engines in 2018.

I have a 2020 5.0 and love it. From what I have read the oil usage problem was mostly fixed by the 2020 model. Mine uses no oil and the 10 speed has worked great. It gets 22 to 23 mpg running 75 mph on the highway. The new trucks have scary power and I cannot imagine what one with a tune would be like.

That's what I heard too Jim. The 18 seem to have been the worst of it and then once you started getting towards 19-20 the odds of it happening were reduced. Still is a gamble I guess but at the end of the day there's issues with all of them. So many on the road with no issues. Same with the 10 speed. Plenty of issues but then so many people don't say anything when they operate as they should and never have a problem.

I cannot get over the power of the newer trucks. 100 more horsepower than anything I have 😂
