2003 F150 5.4 Off Road model Alternator
Hi
So my alternator light comes on at higher RPMs. This happens mostly on the highway, if the tranny downshifts for a hill etc. This light shuts off at normal cruising rpms. Is this the sign that this alternator needs to be replaced? It is the original to my knowledge. My battery is new. Also would this be a 130 amp alternator? This truck also has the factory tow package. Did this years trunk every come with an OEM alt larger than 130 amp? I assume the voltage regulator is bolted on to this alternator. Do people ever replace those?
Lastly what do people use as replacements? I would love an OEM MotorCraft alt, but they are like $300.
Thanks for the feedback

Voltage regulator is internal. Sounds to me like the brushes are worn out. OEM is 95 or 130 amp, aftermarket available with higher output up to 200. There were either 6 or 8 groove pulleys.
