Ignition Cylinder problem

Apparently my main key, and spare key, have worn down to the point that sometimes the ignition will not turn. (Neither door lock works either.)
Obtain a replacement from Autozone with 2 keys popped right in, no issues. Except, when you remove the key and open the door, the Open Door chimes starts going off. Put the old cylinder back in, and that problem goes away.
Tried another brand, and the exact same thing happens.
Why does the chime continue to go off? As a last resort I am thinking of removing the electrical contact from the old cylinder and putting it on the new one. Really don't want to pay a locksmith to rekey the old cylinder.
