Speed limit removal

I have a 1998 F150 4.6l 2wd 5 speed NASCAR edition. At the local test and tune track it would go well over a hundred mph, but since I bought a SCT X4 tuner and loaded their 93 octane tune it cuts out at 98 mph. I have been working with their tech support for months now and have not been able to get it resolved. I even sent them my tuner and they charged me $110 and it still has no option to remove the speed limiter. I am running Roush headers, BBK 75mm throttle body, K&N COI, 3.73 gears. I really don't think I would benefit much from paying a company for a custom tune. Does anyone have any ideas? I have spent countless hours on this and many other forums trying to find the answer. Thanks!

I think a custom tune may be your only option.

Update: So I ordered a 5 Star Tuning custom tune. It seems to have added a little more pep, but sure enough it hit 98 and cutout! I still have not heard back from my email I sent to SCT. Now I am waiting to hear from 5 Star. I asked them before I ordered the tune if they could remove the speed limiter and they assured me that the could. Very frustrated right now! :/

You didn't ask 5 Star when you ordered your custom tune?

Yes, I specifically asked the sales rep before I ordered the tune. He put me on hold and asked the techs. He then came back and said that they remove the speed limiter on all their tunes. They are closed this weekend. I plan on calling them Monday, but went ahead and sent them an email anyway.

Interesting. They are a pretty reputable tuning house.

Let us know how you make out, please.

Will do! I heard that SCT was a good company as well and all they did was give me the run around. :/

SCT as a company does not provide custom tunes though…

I realize that, but I bought there tune to be able to use their 93 octane tune and remove the speed limiter. Which is what they say and have repeatedly said their SCT X 4 will do. They have sent me countless updates and I have spend several hours with them on the phone. They even had me send it back to them and pay a fee, but still no removal option and now crickets! I work during the hours they are open and they won’t answer my email. That is why I turned to Five Star.

fivestar provides custom tunes…

now you understand the importance of a custom tune over a canned tune

Not yet, but hopeful! Next stop will be to the Stealership and see if I can get my factory tune put back on my ECU. I don’t know if it’s related or not, but the KAM reset on my SCT has never worked. I have had problems with high idle and I just do the battery disco and drain method,

I can’t even find any place advertising a canned SCT device that advertises speed limiter removals, so good luck

Perhaps, 98 mph is as fast as it will run?

The last pic is a screen shot from the owner's manual for my tuner.

I was able to get it clocked in @ 115mph on a GPS devices(because my speedo stops at 100]. That was before i install the 93 octane tune with the SCT X4 device. They have a track here locally where you can test and tune your cars. I have had a lot of problems with the SCT. At one time the truck would not start, but only beeped. They had to send me a new stock file to download to get it running again. I think that is where the problem started.
