After market backup Camera
After market backup Camera
Hi
I have a 2003 F150 offroad model with the factory tow package. The backup cam system I want to use requires 12V to the camera. I want the cam to only turn on when the truck is in reverse. I know some people tap into the reverse light in the tail light. Can I also tap into the reverse light for the trailer harness on the truck. Its the standard RV 7 way plug. And it looks like the center (Yellow wire) is the reverse light. Is this the way to go? I assume this will work fine even without a trailer attached. Advice please.

Hi
I ended up tapping the reverse light. Worked fine. The bigger issue was the Auto Vox W7 backup cam ($129) I bought, installed, and returned. It was crap. The 5 inch screen was grainey, the grid lines were not at all accurate and were not adjustable, the cam mount they sent would not stick to anything. This cam was listed as "Amazon's Choice", so much for their rating system. That said does anyone have a recommendation for another backup camera they like? Most of what I see out there looks like the same crap I bought. I would like a 5 to 7 inch HD screen, digital, with wireless from the cam to the screen. I am ok with the camera needing to be wired. Let me know what people have installed that really works.
Thanks

I bought the Amazon Choice with the License plate frame. Tapped into the reverse light. Works fine. I also Bought a Type S dash cam from costco and installed a on off switch for itl Love it. I find most of the back up cameras have a bit of grain to them. Mine was $35 bucks. Can't complain as now I'm not sticking my trailer hitch into the car behind me.
What route did y'all take in terms of bringing the signal wire from the plate frame back into the cabin? Curious to know if anyone came up with a method they were particularly happy with, or something they'd tell others to avoid.
