looking to get a trailer brake controller
from my research, I want a proportional model
not looking for junk, but not made of $ either if that matters
on a Toyota truck site I belong to, one of the guys said the $40 ones were crap..... but I see a lot of $40 controllers from reputable companies, so I don't know.... that is why I am asking.

I prefer the Tekonsha P3. I have one, and it love it. Very intuitive.
I also feel better using it than some of the stock ones in these trucks. The fine tuning that can be done is incredible.

about $100....gets you a pretty GOOD one.
btw...its all in the mount!!
I added mine about 1 yr ago for our boy scout trailer mounted it in the lil "pocket" in the dash ...lower right of steering column.

I'll second the recommendation for the Tekonsha P3! I had one in my old 2005 King Ranch and it was far superior to the less expensive ones I had in earlier trucks. Don't "cheap out" on the brake controller.

Do you have the 7 pin wiring and socket installed? If not, you need this:

Good to go with the controller and adapter cable. It plugs in under the dash, near the OBD2 socket.

This is the wrong one for our trucks (the bolt pattern does NOT line up with the FORD pattern) ...after drilling the bracket to mount it i used it exactly 1 time!!!! soon as i unplugged the traalier 1 of the BLADES came OUT OF THE PLUG IN...
after examining the blade ("terminal") it was obvious that it pulled out of the lock tab inside the plastic ......threw it away ...went and bought a new FORD model (IIRC about $75 ..argh) problem solved.
