97 f150 4.2 automatic swap out with 4.6 automatic 4x4?

I bought a 97 step side with a bad 4.2 bolted to a automatic and I have a 97 extended cab 4x4 with a good 4.6 also has a automatic and was wondering if the transmission off the 4.2 possibly would bolt up to the 4.6? I know I have to change computer and wiring harness but was hoping that the tranny would fit. If anyone could tell me or even give me some advice I would appreciate it. Thanks

Nope, bell housings have different bolt patterns. The only 4R70W that will bolt to a 4.6 is one from a 4.6 or 5.4. The 4.2 uses the old Windsor pattern.

I guess I didn't respond back to you and I apologize for that so took your advice and just put another 4.2 in its place and didn't even try to see if it would work. That's why I come here for answers and thanks again keep the advice you all give us we do appreciate it.

Just FYI, You can get an Aussie 4R70W trans that still uses a separate bellhousing unlike the one piece trans used here. They're not common here but also not impossible to find. There are also adapters made. https://transmissionadapters.com/collections/ford
